[TWM 2.02] Text rendering issues

AndreaColombo

Question

2.0 did away with text upscaling on resolutions higher than 1080p and for this I am ever thankful. However, a couple text rendering issues are affecting the new rendering code at 1440p (I cannot comment for other resolutions as I only possess a 1440p monitor.)

Text starts out as blurry, then sharpens.

By no means a big deal, but still an issue. Upon starting the game at 2560x1440, text appears blurry:

Upon loading a game, text in the loading-screen tip starts out as blurry, then suddenly changes to sharp after a while. I tried to take a screenshot of the same loading screen as blurry and then sharp, but for some reason FRAPS won't take a screenshot of it after the text sharpens.

From that moment on, text is always sharp until you leave the game:

If this issue is resolution-specific, it might be related to this other one whereby character models are upscaled at character creation and level up at 2560x1440 but appear perfectly crisp at whatever other resolution below and above 1080p.

Inconsistent text size.

This is the more bothersome of the two; I've recorded a video to better demonstrate it:

Observe how scrolling up/down changes the size of the text. Further observe how certain letters never appear to change size (namely: m, n, p, t, r); this means that they'll look too small when they appear on lines with bigger text. I highlight some of them in the video by pointing at them with the mouse cursor.

Here's the saved game I used in the video: link
