Looking for ideas to start fresh with an unconventional group

Recommended Posts

So i'd like to start a fresh PoE game, and i really like to play CRPGs with unconventional groups, more often than not to "abuse" the game mechanics (yeah i know, shame on me). It can be a group of 6 wizards abusing chill fog, it can be a group solely dedicated to making one of the character godlike (like a monk wearing no armor getting all the buffs / debuffs to hit like a truck and survive) or stuff like that.

Some ground rules :

1. I'll be playing on hard, the group doesnt need to be POTD cut.

2. There needs to be some casters, melee characters are way too boring for me to play 5 or 6 of them. Tho those casters may very well be only buffers / debuffers

3. The group needs to perform quite well (or i'm just not having any fun)  tho I dont care if said group stands no chance against some of the more difficult foes (adra, alpine etc.), i can just skip them or cheat my way through if need be.

That's about it, i'd love to hear your ideas if you feel like helping me out.

If you like ludicrous buffs, rolling with multiple Chanters is fun!

If you want "interesting" over "minmaxed" then try just playing with weird character concepts, or take abilities you wouldn't normally take and build around them. Fire Godlike who refuses to use anything that deals Cold damage? A money-grubbing pansy who wants all the cash and credit without exerting the effort? Or maybe you could finally be the one to get use out of that "Monk Multiclass" ability that increases unarmed damage for non-Monk classes?

Chanters you say ? I dont know i only tried kana on my very first playthrough and found it very lacking tho i admittedly have no idea how to build a good chanter.

Of course the chant that was making you shoot faster was pretty OP but i think they nerfed it and i'd like to avoid that unkillable tank + 4-5 characters with firearms crap anyway.

As for the the group, what i like is an "interesting concept" to start with, then i go with min max all the way, as long as it makes some sense. For instance if i'm using a warrior tank, i will definitely take all the good stuff to make it extremely hard to hit have lot of engagement, but i wont make him with 3 might which seems too silly for me.

Anyway i'll check on the chanter stuff, might be an idea, thanks.

I'm in love with my current party, which is all hirelings because im doing PotD. My main is a Priest, and I have a Firegodlike Monk and Orlan Barbarian tank/debuffers. A Deathgodlike Wayfarer Paladin for melee dps, along with a Cipher (ranged) and Wizard both woodelves. It's fun having 3 casters and 3 melee, helps keep my backline clear.

A troupe of six Ancient Memory talented chanters packing firearms with multiple overlapping chants of:

  • Come, Come Soft Winds of Death
  • Sure-Handed Ila Nocked Her Arrows with Speed
  • Lo, Their Endless Host, the Harbingers Doom
  • Thick Grew Their Tongues, Stumbling O'er Words

and with all six also simultaneously summoning 3 skeletons would be pretty rad.

Ok so i think i have an idea of what i'd like : a group with a dps barbarian as a "tank", if i can make this work.

So that'd look like :

1. DPS Barbarian. Probably using a 2 hander but i'm not decided yet, he's going to be the "main tank"

2. Chanter. I'll make him sturdy to be able to take some heat off the barbarian, and i'll get whatever chant can make my barbarian hit harder

3. Priest. I'll most likely need one if i'm to keep my barbarian alive

4. Wizard. I love those and i sure as hell will need some CC.

5. Not decided

6. Not decided

I probably want another melee char, maybe another barbarian with the same build, i cant have only one dps oriented character (the wizard is probably going to be low might, high int / perception and use moslty CC).

Huh. Depending on how highly you value companion dialogue and/or pinching your pennies, you might just want to use Aloth. A paltry 12 Might, but you're not prioritizing Might. Not sure what his Perception looks like after all these godsdamned patches everywhere, but I think his Int is decent at least.
