any way to exit pit to get to white march exp?

Recommended Posts

No, I just rant on "don't wanna load, waaaaah" people. People who genuinly have "lost" the savegame is another matter.

But yes, it still depends on how they 'lost' an automatically created unavoidable savegame that just *happens* to be infront of the point of no return.

That's like winning the lottery, *knowing* you won it, having the ticket in your hand... then shred it for an unexplainable reason.

But do tell the stories of how they got 'lost', maybe someone actually has a genuine issue rather than all this vague muck I've heard so far...

Cause yeah, I do kinda concern myself about the plotline of a plot-driven RPG that's really good on it's plot... not just to throw it out of the window with a 'lol, oh well... you just magically appeared in lala-land after potentially DYING. :/'

I'm all the way at the end of the game, entered the pit, killed everything, etc, and one thing left to do is the final click to release the spoilers.

Is there any way to get out of here to attempt the white march expansion?  or just keep reloading old saved games until I find one close enough?  (which I always hate doing in games like this :/)

Im in the same situation as you. Also, there is no sign of the "pre-end save", so I am left with replaying hours and hours, treading the same ground over again any way I look at it. I had no idea that I was going to be unable to play the expansion just because I finished the game (a bit of a punishment there).

I am also so annoyed that I have spent a futher £18 (like an idiot I bought the season pass) or so on an expansion that I cant access without re-playing the game.

Wish Id saved my money. I am so peeved with Obsidian right now.

Why not just let out of the pit before doing the "you know what" after defeating "you know who" (spoilers) ending the game?

Yeah... I bought the White march expansion pass today 2015-09-24 and re-installed pillars of eternity, my own save file was there, after killing the boss, but before activating the machine.

No autosaves or the infamous pre-end save though…………. I did get the update in the journal for the expansion when I loaded the only save I had.

So I think as it stands right now, I would have to start a new game to play the expansion?

It should be easy to make a portal available after you kill the boss, from that area to the keep.

I never got the impression that the expansion was something to be played after the main campaign's end-game.  In fact almost every bit of info released about The White March stressed that it was to be played in the middle of the campaign, not as an additional act tacked onto the end of the game.

I totally get why people want to take their old end-game characters through the new content, but I don't know why anyone was expecting that.

Honestly, the modern games I play these days like Dragon age and Witcher gives you the ability to play expansion after you have finished the game, so I just assumed I would be able to do the same here, that was a mistake. But it is what it is now, I should have read up on it before buying the expansion pass on steam. What’s done is done.

Truth be told, I just want to play with the character that I’ve finished the game with and I’m not going to restart the game from the beginning for additional content. But that’s just me and probably some other people also, that won’t buy the expansions now, when they know so it's a loss of revenue for Obsidian.

And honesty, I can’t see how hard it would be with the next patch, too just add a portal to the keep after the last boss I killed. But I honestly don’t know, it may actually be hard, but then the developers could just say so and be done with it!

Yeah, that's definitely true, and the more modern approach to expansions would preferable for veterans of the game.  I just know the devs wanted to do a Baldur's Gate style expansion that added new stuff to the map (Durlag's Tower, that ice island, etc.).  It seems more geared toward new players or veterans who are more than happy to start a new game for the nth time.  For people who are just getting the game, or (like me) just bided their time before playing it, it's pretty great to start out with the White March already in place, as it fills out the campaign with more content.

I also save constantly, so it seems strange to think that some people would have to replay hours and hours of game just to find a save from before entering the pit.  Unless it's a Trial of Iron game of course.  Those people are just screwed.

I personally prefer the modern approach to expansions. Still, to be so heavy reliant on the fact that the Pre-end save file will always be there or that users will keep a lot of save files is just well in my opinion, bad planning.

I mean the file could disappear because of user error, corruption or other technical reasons.

For those that can enjoy the expansion, be it if they have a save, start over, are a new player or decided to wait like you did, that’s great.

I’m not one of them, if I decided to replay the game again, that will probably happen in about 5-10 years and it was the same with baldur’s gate and Icewind dale after I finished them. It will be the same with this, for me that is.

I’m not, on the other hand going to refund the expansion like some other people have done, since I think Pillars of Eternity is an awesome game, there are too few like it, in this day and age. I hope for a continuation and the best way to make sure that happens is by making sure the company makes a profit on this game.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuut I’m still going to hold some hope for that portal! ;)

So, what is the problem with replaying the game anyway?

Most people seem downright allergic to a second play through, whereas I'm on my fourth and still enjoying it like crazy. 'sides, it's not like Pillars of Eternity has little to offer in the ways of replayability.

Well I can’t speak for others than myself, most games when I’ve finished the campaign, I can’t replay the campaign again with a “short time span” passing between play through and play through.

Because I get bored over the same environment’s and story, it gets repetitive. Other than that, it takes time to play through the same parts again to get too the new content, there has been a few games like the Witcher series, Mass Effect or Halo, but those games are few and far between.

But that’s just me, what reasons others have, I can’t really say.

Install IE Mod, use the console to teleport to a different area?

AreaTransition MapName PointLocation
Example: AreaTransition AR_0002_Dyrford_Tavern_01 North1
The list of all areas: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/62420848/poe-areas.txt

You can probably do this with any save after the pit, maybe even the ToI saves where you've already beaten Thaos.

I was happy to start a new game when Part 1 of WM was released.  That said, surely it would be possible to implement a solution in which your "patron" creates a portal to the game world after the "main boss" is defeated but before the player "deals with" the Hollowborn issue?  (Apologies for the vagueness but this is the no-spoiler forum.)

I can't think of any NPCs/quests that would need to be rewritten if the player returned to the game world at that point, and it would go a long way toward addressing people's frustration about having to reload their pre-pit save.

That's a good suggestion. However, I don't think you need the IE Mod to do area transitions but it may require "iroll20s", which will disable Steam achievements, if you don't have the IE Mod. http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Console_command

I just checked my ironman save which was right before the final fight. My party was in combat mode when I loaded so I had to complete the fight. I then used "AreaTransition AR_0604_Stronghold_Great_Hall 1" to get to the stronghold. It worked for me. I'm not sure if it will cause glitches later but I don't see why it would. It's doing the same thing a teleporter (or other means of transporting you to a different map) would do.

Is there any way via IE mod or such to allow access to Stronghold menu doing this? It's locked out when you enter endgame area and if you teleport out it seems to stay locked.

Thanks,

Guylos

I ask the same question

Can anyone help us?

This is the problem with these kind of posts... people assume that others are "whining" and can't possibly have valid reasons for being in a particular situation so they end up trolling; some unintentionally, but trolling nonetheless.

My style of gameplay is to have a few savegames going and after three or four I start recycling my saves, overwriting old ones because due to my playstyle there's no point for me returning to anything more than four save games prior to where I'm at; this includes the autosave file. Therefore when I was in the pit I saved frequently and ended up with all four save files taking place in the pit, including the pre-pit auto-save. I knew it was the no-return point and I didn't care because I finished everything there was to do and I was ready for the end game; no point returning to something I've already played out, so pre-pit save is worthless. After finishing the game it kicked me straight out to menu and didn't create a finished save-game or allow me to do so, but I didn't mind since there would be nothing for me to do afterwards; after all, the game is over. Then they came out with these expansions, so I re-install Pillars, buy both expansions, and find that there's no way to continue from where I'm at, which is pretty ridiculous given that I had no problem continuing from my end-games in other RPG's such as the Baldur's gate series, the Neverwinter series, etc.... Now I come to the forums and find that it isn't possible without enabling a cheat, and I also find people heaping ridicule on those who lost their save files because "you're a god damn idiot and have nobody else to blame for not foreseeing this would happen". My stance is : if you have nothing constructive to say, better to not say anything at all.
