Spectre1
How would very intelligent people feel if they had kids that turned out to be average and end up becoming Football players and cheerleaders in school? And these children would become tradesmen, policemen, soldiers, NFL players, hairdressers, waitresses, supermodels, NFL cheerleaders, and porn stars instead of scientists, engineers, psychologists/psychiatrists, and CEOs.How would it feel to have children who win trophies at football games and cheerleading competitions instead of science fairs? Enoch
Depends on how weirdly hung up they are on reducing all elements of self-worth down to a narrow conception of "intelligence."

teknoman2
intelligence is not only used for science a person with high intelligence can be anything and use it to make his chosen job easier/more profitable. an intelligent pig farmer can acquire veterinarian knowledge and use it to increase the survivability and birth rate of his pigs, leading to higher meat production and with some research into economy and law, he can increase his profit (by cutting expences on hiring "experts" for every little thing among other things) The words freedom and liberty, are diminishing the true meaning of the abstract concept they try to explain. The true nature of freedom is such, that the human mind is unable to comprehend it, so we make a cage and name it freedom in order to give a tangible meaning to what we dont understand, just as our ancestors made gods like Thor or Zeus to explain thunder. -Teknoman2- What? You thought it was a quote from some well known wise guy from the past? Stupidity leads to willful ignorance - willful ignorance leads to hope - hope leads to sex - and that is how a new generation of fools is born! We are hardcore role players... When we go to bed with a girl, we roll a D20 to see if we hit the target and a D6 to see how much penetration damage we did. pmp10
I doubt that failing to inherit status is a problem related to intelligence.

Orogun01
Spectre1, what's with you and cheerleaders? His parents are cheerleaders, and he is the intelligent kid. Could be all that cheering lead him to success, he shouldn't harbor such negative thoughts about them. I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"* *If you can't tell, it's you.

Ditch the failed one and keep making new ones till the results are satisfactionary. HA! "Good thing I don't heal my characters or they'd be really hurt." Is not something I should ever be thinking. Gromnir
the query is amusing. am gonna avoid the silly jock v. nerd nonsense and try to answer the question as we imagine it should be rather than as spectre offers. to be a great man is less meaningful and less difficult than it is to be a good man. to be a good husband. to be a good father. to be a good friend. these is the goals we feel is most worthy o' aspiration. to be a great lawyer, great physicist or great football player is requiring effort, discipline and dedication, but ultimately, success in intellectual or athletic pursuits should be secondary concerns. greatness is, as often as not, a pyrrhic victory. as to parental expectations, we s'pose Alan Page or Byron White woulda' been disappointed if their sons didn't wanna throw the pigskin with dad in the backyard. if John Updike's children had grown up hating books, we believe he woulda' been saddened. there is gonna be a natural desire to share the things we love with offspring, but ultimately is more important to help the child find something to love. regardless, am thinking that we is far too concerned with excellence in academics and athletics and professional pursuits. to be a good man is the goal we should aspire to. HA! Good Fun! ps we used the gender-neutral usage o' "man" in our post. if you feel slighted by the absence o' feminine pronouns, then you is free to mentally add "or woman" to all o' our offending iterations o' maleness. 2 "If there be time to expose through discussion the falsehood and fallacies, to avert the evil by the processes of education, the remedy to be applied is more speech, not enforced silence."Justice Louis Brandeis, Concurring, Whitney v. California, 274 U.S. 357 (1927) "Im indifferent to almost any murder as long as it doesn't affect me or mine."--Gfted1 (September 30, 2019)
