Game doesn't start; goes black after 1.0.5 update

mikemariano

Question

Pillars of Eternity updated to 1.0.5.  After the update, pressing Play in Steam shows a black screen and cursor and nothing else—the Obsidian logo does not appear.  The game does not respond to keyboard or trackpad input and I must Command-Alt-Escape to end the program.

Deleting Local Content, reinstalling, and verifying the game's integrity did not help.

Attached are my specifications:

OS X 10.10.3 (14D136)

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)

2.6 GHz Intel Core i5

16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Intel Iris 1536 MB

I am not permitted to upload my Unity Player.log, but the XML error below is what repeats throughout the log.  Is this TempSaveData connected to a saved game?  I never got this error before 1.0.5 and didn't have any saved game problems before then.

Thank you!

I tried deleting my last save file.  After starting Steam it immediately re-downloaded the Steam Cloud Save copy of that file.  Pillars of Eternity then started up normally and I was able to start from my latest save.

So this now works—I'm not sure if that will be helpful to anyone else!
