Black hound (dog) disappears

Hi,
I hope this question has not been asnwered already. I searched the forums but could not find any similar report. I am at the beginning of the game, at the Black Hound Inn. When I talk to the dog at the first floor and I tell her to come with me, what happens next is that the dog just disappears. I tried the dialogue several times reloading and earlier save but the outcome is still the same, the dog always disappears..... Any feedback on this issue? Thanks

No, but seriously, check your inventory and your stash.

Once you find your 'pet', you need to 'equip' it.
