If Pillars of Eternity had romances

Recommended Posts

I want to marry my dog!

- How can I live my life if I can't even tell good from evil?

- Eh, they're both fine choices. Whatever floats your boat.

I've been a vocal advocate on these boards for less, more realistic and impactful violence in games for years, and yes dating sims are for lonely, insane people.

Or maybe I was joking, perish the thought.

Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.

I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin.

Tea for the teapot!

If you're killing people in the game, then it's still a killing sim, even if the killing is more rare and realistic.

If you were actually joking and you don't feel that way at all, and you weren't just saying how you felt in the form of a joke, then my response simply doesn't apply. Feel free to ignore it.

I'm not expecting romance, but I was surprised there wasn't even an opportunity for any sex. I mean Hiravius even explicitly offers, you just can't say anything in response.

If PoE had romances I would have pre-ordered it instead of waiting on a sale like I am now. Just as well I guess since it's still being de-bugged.

Honestly from what I've seen of the main companions ... hard to say as they all seem pretty shallow (not owning it doesn't stop me from watching a lot of vids). If they added romance they would have to work on making the companions a little more interesting also ... which would actually take some work ... which may explain why there isn't any romance. I guess I'm waiting for a developer willing to put some effort into their characters.

if Pillars of Eternity had romance, it would be like dragon age, with one heterosexual romance options, 5 bisexual ones, 10 gay ones and a couple of transsexual options.

That would be awesome.

If that were the case I believe this would be the rare RPG with more options for women than for men (as stated, BG2 only had Anomen...)

Ok you named BG2. That is one. Which are the other RPGs? I mean both DA2 and DAI had more options for women. None of the ME games had more options for men. Ok I think there were a few more for men in ME3 so that is two (maybe there were a ton for either gender). Neither of the KOTOR games gave more options for men. So how is this rare? Granted not every RPG with romances is made by Bioware but they are the standard for this sort of thing.

I am not claiming you are wrong just...I have no clue where you are coming from here.

You know, you are absolutely right. For some reason that was just a feeling that stuck in my mind from Infinity Engine games, but BG2 is really the only one that has romances. Unless you count Planescape Torment, but I don't know how you could count that. Checking it, it looks like I got that entirely wrong.

I've always found romances in video games to be cheesy.

Press 'A' to kisth

Exactly. You play the game for the adventure. Not to explore the sexual escapades of Joe the Dwarf.

yet the only woman that I feel leaves room open for romance would be Pallegina. Grieving Mother seems too out-there.

Which would make it an interesting option, given a creative writer.

The main problems with romances in games isn't that they're there, it's their tagged on nature. If the story of the NPC makes for a believable option under the right circumstances, I'm all for it, since it can enrich the story and the playing experience.

Funny as that may sound, the most interesting characters for a possible romance would be sexist Durance and out there GM. Pallegina and Eder not so much, since they represent the classic choice.

I think you can count Torment as you can have the succubus say (If I remember correctly, it's been a few years) that she'll wait as long as it takes in order to see you again. The tiefling can also express romantic feelings.

If Pillars of Eternity had romances, we would all be wondering how Hiravias' or Durance's sweat tastes like. But it doesn't, so questions like that remain on Bioware forums.

And please let us leave them there.  So far I have romances if you can call them that either boring, intrusive, disruptive,.    We do have some quests in PoE that deal with love lost and found and questionable.  Player character romances I consider more trouble than they are worth or just plain boring with no substance.

As far as the scripted companions I do find them interesting but you have to talk to them.

Which one of the companions would you choose to be with? What race and gender would you be?

Odema should've had a female prostitute employed to service anyone in the caravan, as incentive for people to travel with him. Given that Odema cares about who he escorts to and fro, it would make sense for him to have a prostitute along just in case the travelers feel the need.

After sleeping with the prostitute you should unlock some kind of neat witcher style card:

You should alternatively have the option to liberate a woman from a life of prostitution and only if she asks.  This leads to a few different outcomes that are both dark & twisted.

(I do not condone prostitution in real life).

Romance options are fun, and they attract more female gamers.   However, I've learned that having female gamers can BACKFIRE. Bioware made all the females in Inquisition look ugly (except morrigan & leliana) to appease the gays & feminists. They also made sure all the women in Inquisition were ugly so the female gamers don't feel insecure about their looks in real life. Doing this ended up attracting the LGBT community & more female gamers, but at the expense of content for straight males.

As long as Obsidian stays strong with their balls intact, then yes, by all means add romance options. Just remember to NEVER be politically correct when adding romance options, AND DO NOT CAVE IN TO THE WOMEN OR GAYS, BE STRONG.

Your priority should always be:

1. Straight male gamers FIRST

2. Women second

3. Gays LAST.

The following two romance types will APPEASE everyone:

1) Highly attractive tramp female companion.

2) Highly attractive a-hole male companion.

Then make them both bi-sexual, DONE, simple.  That will cater to just about everyone who doesn't have a fetish for ugly people or some kind of weird political agenda.

IMPORTANT: Make sure the player has the option to kill any of the above companions if they don't like them.

Having trouble with the games combat on POTD, Trial of Iron?

- Hurtin bomb droppin MONK - [MONK BUILD] - [CLICK HERE]

- Think Rangers suck? You're wrong - [RANGER BUILD] + Tactics/Strategies - [CLICK HERE]

- Fighter Heavy Tank - [FIGHTER BUILD] + Tactics/Strategies - [CLICK HERE]

Despite what I may post, I'm a huge fan of Pillars of Eternity, it's one of my favorite RPG's.

Anita Sarkeesian keeps Bioware's balls in a jar on her shelf.

More of this nonsense.

If there is one thing I believe about video and computer games, it is that you're better off trying to appeal to 5 demographics with 5 games than 5 demographics with 1 game. Thus, this "always" rule of yours is utter drivel. I haven't played DA:I but if it's a game for feminists and gays then that's okay (and it's probably about time they got something with decent production value). Straight people are a demographic as well, so some games should be made for them, too.

What you're imagining, however, is a game made for everyone "that matters," hatefully excluding everyone which "doesn't matter," based on the concept that there can be such a thing as a perfect game with maximum appeal. That is a lie. There is no perfect game, only perfect games.

And someone's perfect game probably involves gay dragon porn. Nothing wrong with that. Maybe someday someone will make it for him.

I actually caught myself thinking how  refreshing it was to find Eder interesting without needing to pick the "right" responses to further his relationship with my character. Not including them opens the door to exploring more varied characters NPCs and their relationships.

@OP: For any romancing purposes, just stick to The Salty Mast.

Prostitution is not romance and has nothing to do with romance.  It already is included in the game.   The word romance implies at least some minimal emotional relationship between the folk involved.

:sigh:  I really wish certain people would realize that women play these games too.  Personally I find being considered  only as a sex object and not a person, intelligent and capable of contributing to the adventure as an equal very insulting.

Who is only considering you a sex object and not a person capable of contributing to the adventure as an equal?

What did the prostitutes ever do to you? Just leave them alone.

"Good thing I don't heal my characters or they'd be really hurt." Is not something I should ever be thinking.
