Update #94: Patch 1.04 - New Fixes and the Introduction of Patch Betas

Recommended Posts

This isn't intended to come off as rude, but I wonder why the priorities are the way they are for v1.05. Adding portrait changes and features should be much lower in priority than a decent companion AI and continued work on pathfinding. I have seen multiple reviewers and players complain about the lack of AI and how poorly the game plays without it causing frustration for players. I have not yet seen anyone complain about not having the ability to change their portrait over the duration of the game.

Not to be rude, but I wonder if you understand that UI designing and programming and pathfinding and companion AI are done by different people whose work don't influence each other in anyway. And when they promise that feature that allows you to change character portrait and sounds set during game will be in next patch don't mean that they don't improve or at least try to improve those AI and pathfinding issues even if they aren't in next patch, but instead it just is the fact that enabling changing portrait and sound set during the game is much faster feature to produce than fixes for AI or pathfinding, which may even need full overhaul before they work as good as they want and there is no point to introducing quick hacks that don't solve issues fully and have potential to create more issues than they solve.

I'm playing on a mac, and the loading times are still redonkulous. Especially the first one when you continue a session. It was over a minute. Once you're in the city it still as bad as before. I'm going to attempt a fresh reboot and see if that's any better. Part of the issue is there's no simple way to delete save game files. Is it really that hard to allow us to name the file or add a box for us to choose to delete them?

My thoughts exactly, pointless to point out these priorities (p for pendetta!) when their employees are specialised with different set of skills, for different kind of tasks. It's different story with some large corporations like Bli$$ard, whose patching doesn't usually make any sense.

But that aside, i'm rather pleased with the rhythm you guys are squishing these bugs flat, no matter the order.

"The end comes soon. We hear drums, drums in the deep. They are coming."

My guess is that it's an easy-to-implement feature introduced to make it possible for players to change their portraits in order to take advantage of newly added portraits.

Different people work on different stuff. You can't have everyone working on the AI all at once. Also, the AI in the game is crummy, but there's actually much more important systemic issues to address. But I'm sure someone is working on the AI, too.

So it's not so much a matter of priority as much as a matter of reality.

Crappy AI seems commonplace in computer games. I'm guessing good AI is one of the more difficult things to implement.

Is there any chance of getting an easier "Easy" mode for gamers like me who totally suck at playing games, but still love them?

I think at the point where Easy isn't easy enough for you, you should just activate cheats and do what you need to get through the story.

Pretty sure they said companion AI will only be a thing they'll be looking to add in the expansion. You're gonna have to make due with the basic AI they have right now.

I hate Unity.

Do not get me wrong, I'm really loving the game ... but ... is there really the need to implement cosmetic changes rather than fix bugs?

I know, maybe its a different team, etc... but you know... more features = more code lines = more bugs. And we have a lot already that need to be fixed. I´m not saying that it isnt important, but hey, maybe its something that the community dont want now. (AI needs to be addressed urgently)

Good AI is extremely hard to implement and more complex game and it mechanics are harder it is. Game AI programming is also somewhat different from your typical computer AI programming as you want make AI so that it gives illusion that it does it best to win player even though in reality you don't really want it to be better than the player, which is usually quite hard as players usually can see where AI does stupid moves and they can exploit those moves to win the AI, which usually causes players to lose all illusions that AI is actually smart.

There are people working on companion AI. They're called modders.

In all seriousness, in every game in which modding the AI has been possible, the best AI's were always made by modders. As for things like portraits, there is almost certainly a list of things they wanted done that were not essential to the game which will be rolled out in subsequent patches along with other bug fixes.

Lol.

How about we let them first worry about bugs that are game-breaking for people who try to play the game normally.

And then non-game-breaking but still annoying bugs affecting people who try to play the game normally.

And then balancing issues, performance improvements, and feature tweaks.

And then worry about bug which will never bother anyone who plays the game normally, and will only be experienced by speedrunners who are specifically looking for them.

Okay?

Companion AI is hard. I wouldn't expect that soon.

Please, for the love of Eothas, teach party members not to auto-attack charmed/dominated companions though.

Combat encounters should be about tactically beating an enemy AI, not about frantically pausing&clicking fast enough to beat your own idiotic auto-attack AI at issuing new orders.

Turn Based Combat:

I have read rumors that a patch will be released in the summer, that will introduce Turn Based Combat

(like Temple of Elemental Evil)

I STRONGLY prefer this style, and will likely wait until this is patch is released before I buy this game

Any dates (est dates) on the release of this patch?

(I think I read 1.10 patch this summer)

Why the hell is this patch over 500mb?

Because Steam sucks at delivering patches.

The same patch is only 12MB on GOG.

Complain about it to Steam support - maybe if enough people do, they'll finally implement a differential patching system.

  • Optimized how scene transitions are handled for better memory usage on 32-bit machines. This may allow players to transition to new areas without running out of memory.

Doesn't work.

i have the last version (1.04...) but my game crash again and again when i go  to Gilded Vale : I can't go out of Temple of Eothas.  I try to use code console and go to Valewood  and it's work, but when i come back to Gilded Vale, game crashed again. Please fix this :(
