I'm terrified for Greece to be honest, you guys are in for a pretty grueling run.. Seems hate and fearmongering are still a very real and annoying threat to democracy here 2000 years later.

In fact for all of the western world, there are eerily parallels to the crisis of the Roman republic that would lead to the formation of the Empire. Creeping institutionalized racism, expansion of citizenship to said immigrants that caused massive internal problems as populist politicians inflamed the local crowds against them and a strong move towards oligarchical power that caused the disenfranchised to go for corrupt demagogues who promised them a pittance of influence.

Edit:

Details? What has you so frustrated, are you saying this hateful party has become the second biggest in Denmark?

Yeah a party which has public announced that it wants:

to force immigrants to stare at naked breats

to ban sattelit tv in ghettos

to exile an entire family if one member commits a crime (even if it's 3 generations since they moved here)

to ban the colour green, since its associated with Islam

every citizen in a DNA register.

to send Syrian refugees to Kenya

all religious holidays to conform to school holidays (which incidentally means every religion here should conform to christian holidays)

to publically fund healers at hospitals (yep that new age bull****)

20% of public foods (schools, hospitals etc etc) should by law incluce pork - so muslims can feel extra exluced, for giggles and lulz I guess.

to be able to use "Nødret" or a kind of marshal law - bypassing our constitution and parliamentary law - when they have to "deal with muslims".

to put a tax on all written english words - to save Danish.

to force immigrants to speak Danish in their homes, by law.

to force radios to play at least 50% Danish music.

to enforce a "minimal sentence" so no matter the context, criminals always get punished.

to reintroduce coporal punishment (it's been illegal to beat your kids since 1964)

homosexuals should be classified as "unnatural" and "handicapped". When sex marriage was written in to the law their speaker on families said "what's next, should it be legal to marry dogs?"

The list goes on and on and on with one more ridiculous proposal after the other.. and it pains me so much that such an biogted party is even allowed to exist, let alone be the second biggest.. ****ing disgrace..

But then again, I'm just being a sore loser :) so take it with a grain of salt.

Holy Smoke dude...that sounds extremely draconian...  I'm only laughing because some of those suggestions seem so ludicrous

You see many people, like me, admire the Scandinavian system of government as it seems to offer a hybrid of Capitalism and Socialism and even though you have your issues it does seem to work. There are valid reasons why your citizens are constantly in the "Top 5 Happiest countries in the world " ( this obviously includes Norway and Sweden )

So  it concerns me that in a country like Denmark you have this seemingly inexplicable  rise of a far right party..that could undermine the Danish society that people like me want our own country to emulate

Why do you think this party is gaining in popularity? Please be brutally  honest in your assessment and any other opinions from others on this topic will be appreciated

Brutally honest.. Well I don't really know I guess, I'm an academic living in the capital, I'm ridiculously out of touch with the "everyday Dane" it seems. The easy conclusion is lack of good education and exposure to outside ideas breeds bigotry, but that's a bit too easy. If I had to blame one thing above all else, I'd blame the financial situation of the world, the crisis (which has basically been nothing more than a mild nuisance here) has however really created a mentality of mistrust to the system, fellow citizens and especially foreigners - everyone is afraid that they are getting cheated somehow and everyone is taking advantage of them. The media  and gernal tone has become increasingly toxic.. even the basic wording, from something simple as "political debate" to "political duel" - I think breeds an atmosphere of unnecessary competition of aggression.

To cite an example - this was a political campaign run by the conservative party.. I think it speaks for itself..

StopNaziIslamism.jpg

So it started slow.. a rephrasing went uncontested, a racist and bigoted remark was allowed without anyone challenging its merit.. and now we have this.

DNA testing isn't quite as easy as they make it seem in CSI.  It's also pricey, most departments can't afford to run DNA unless it is a high profile crime and the labs tend to be backed up for months.

Today I'm setting up for a garage sale.  Yesterday I put the signs up, which was a bit of a kerfuffle.  I had to return to the house twice for better sign hanging supplies.  I started out with duct tape, but realized that was going to be a bad idea.  I returned with zip ties and a staple gun, but my staple gun is cheap and wouldn't penetrate both the poster board and post well enough.  So I ended up using a hammer and nails.  They better stay up.   :banghead:

Strange, I've heard there are many cases where criminals already registered in the DNA data bank kept breaking the laws after their release.

Sure, and water is wet. IMO, its hard not to leave DNA laying around and if there is almost a 100% of being identified for a crime then that will work as an effective deterrent in most cases. Of course there are lifers that don't care. More important would be the structure of the national database and getting a blood sample of everyone at birth.

Why not install cameras everywhere in your bedroom and whatnot aswell. :p

You might commit a crime there afterall, and your DNA in your home is'nt much evidence, now is it?

Heh. A prominent Spanish 20th century intellectual allegedly said that "fascism is cured by reading, and racism is cured by travelling". Then again, he was executed by a mob of slack-jawed yahoos whose rallying cry was "Long live death!" and "Death to intelligence!", so maybe watch out... :p

Because that would be impossibly expensive, most likely. If, on the other hand, each family were to pay for their own eavesdropping device...

Maybe I should elaborate; I thought it was common knowledge that companies will happily provide any information they have gathered about you to the gov't. You explicitly agree to this by using their devices and services (I can't read Swedish but I figure it's more or less the same):

To whom do we disclose your information?

Other Parties When Required by Law or as Necessary to Protect Our Services. There may be instances when we disclose your information to other parties:

- to comply with the law or respond to compulsory legal process (such as a search warrant or other court order);

- to verify or enforce compliance with the policies governing our Services; and

- to protect the rights, property, or safety of Samsung, or any of our respective affiliates, business partners, or customers.

So you pay for an expensive device that records everything you say, and this info is passed along to law enforcement when they require it. Pretty much what you were describing. In addition, those TVs have a "facial recognition" camera, which -unsurprisingly- has been hacked in the past.

I'm not making this stuff up, mate. ;)
