Game still freezes pc, haven't been able to play yet

Continued from this thread:

I've been hoping patches would take care of the issue, but they haven't. After clicking New Game, and moving to the loading screen, the entire PC locks up. I can't click anything, alt-tab, go to task manager--nothing. I have to do a hard reset, and I'm pretty sure that's not very healthy to keep doing over and over.

 

I have tried lower resolution in windowed mode and running the game as admin. I tried the workaround regarding the font (which is not even on my system in the first place.

 

Steam does not appear to be generating any error logs--probably because the whole PC crashes, not just Steam or PoE.

intel i7 860 @ 2.8

8gb RAM

GeForce GTX 460
