Some of the portrait faces get completely overshadowed by it if the portrayed character is looking to his/her left. And, well, if I take my time selecting a good portrait, I'd like to be able to see it clearly during my many hours with the character. Do you think Pillars of Eternity doesn't have enough Portraits?
