"Obsidian is a pretty decent sized developer though, so keeping the lights on and the paychecks going out is no drop in the bucket.  They are still going to need to keep a few projects going at once. "

People don't seem to get that. They view Obsidian as some second rate basement dwelling group of buddies. It's a company with 100+ employees. One just has to look a thte credits for PE to see this. People show such disrepect towards Obsidian a company that has made multiple million+  selling games.  They have employees to feeds and expensive bills to pay.

DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.

Keep in mind that PoE will probably still make money in 10 years, which then probably all goes to Obsidian and not to some random publisher. That's the cool thing this time.

I wouldn't really be too sure of that.

Not too sure games have that long a lifetime these days, not from old formats or something just more about the audience.

I think it's mainly that there's so many more games coming out now, that one game's odds of becoming a "classic" that people will be returning to years down the line is much smaller.  The bigger of a hit Eternity is today, the more likely it is to be the kind of game that people return to in five or ten years.

Still, all things being equal, it's better to be getting a trickle of income from continued sales than not.  It will at least ease the pressure a bit, especially if they can crank out a few more titles that are equally well-received.
