Missing .exe file when downloaded from Steam

Valrin

Question

My friend recently purchased this game for me, the Champion's Edition, off steam. After downloading it I go to play and I get stuck in an infinite loop of an update saying that i am unable to launch the game. Looking into the folder  (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Pillars of Eternity ) there is no .exe file present.

Did you try Steam's "verify integrity of the cache" thingie on PoE to see if it would download any missing files? (r-click on game in Steam client list, Properties/Local Files/Verify)

I have the same problem, this didn't fix it.

Neither did re-installing
