Monsanto Lobbyist Claims Pesticide Is Safe To Drink, But Refuses To Drink It When Offered

Recommended Posts

That was a very interesting and at the same time a very humorous video

I have no sympathy for the older guy, he went to the interview and was lying about his product...it was embarrassing to see him squirm when he realized he had been setup but he deserved it

Imagine going for an interview and knowing you will be lying about a product your company sells but you aren't just lying about a minor thing like what  goods get sourced from which countries that arent necessarily on the political correct list like NK and Syria. Anyway he is lying about the fact that  the drink is safe....its much worse IMO

Given that even if safe to drink, it probably tastes

like the ass of Michael Moore after a weeklong Mexican/Chinese tequila bender I am unsurprised he would be loathe to drink it. Its perfectly safe to munch on DDT as well. Doesn't mean it tastes good.

The man is paid to make Monsanto look good, not drinking it and getting angry plus walking out doesn't look good. Of course he could just be bad at his job, and Monsanto really just made and passed that bill that safeguards them against repercussions due to ****ing everyone just as a precaution. Doesn't mean that they will **** up everyone, just that they're concerned they might. Just like a Captain that seems nervous when he forces everyone to take swimming lessons.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

It is definitely not safe to be imbibing quarts of Glyphosate, and it's definitely unwise to take to munching on DDT. If you really think it's just a taste issue, then just toss some MSG in the mix and drink/gobble up.

DDT has an LD50 of 113mg/kg (for rats, don't really want to run an LD50 test on humans) so theoretically an average human could eat about 8g of DDT to have a 50% chance of dying- probably more to correct for metabolism but still, you wouldn't want to eat a tablespoon full of the stuff. Glyphosate ain't particularly toxic (ld50 ~5.6g/kg; less than table salt) though people have committed suicide by drinking it. While it might be theoretically possible to drink the stuff you wouldn't want to unless you were mentally unbalanced.

I wonder if an advocate for "natural farming" would drink their natural pesticide if offered. Or eat the fertilizer.

Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Mencken

I wonder if they would first claim that it is safe to consume.

Which makes it marginally less safe than caffeine. Still perfectly safe to consume the amounts that people were exposed to on a regular basis.

Not really.

Just because something doesn't kill you right away doesn't mean it's perfectly safe.

Also, consuming caffeine is generally a voluntary thing, being exposed to Glyphosate and DDT is generally not.

Caffeine also does not have risks associated with chronic exposure* and isn't a bioaccumulator (DDT is as it is fat soluble, though not as much so as some other toxins) plus caffeine gets metabolised quickly. Glyphosate is a lot less toxic than ddt, but for any voluntary exposure and as far as possible for environmental exposure the precautionary principle should apply. Plus, glyphosate is used in formulations with other unpleasant stuff, wetting agents and surfactants aren't very pleasant either.

*well, it has some for people with high blood pressure or who are sensitised to it and can get irregular heartbeats and other symptoms from it**, but of course you can avoid that via decaf and avoiding energy drinks.

**from personal experience the feeling that your skin is contracting around your bones is particularly unpleasant, especially if you don't know what is causing it

Bt and pythrethrins are pretty safe, far more so than non organic alternatives, as are other alternatives like neem oil or derris dust, the various vinegar and garlic types etc. Bt's withholding period is no days at all (indeed, GE crops have its cry protein produced permanently, so anyone eating a GE crop has likely eaten large amounts of its cry protein), while pythrethrins have a 1 day period. Neonicitonoids, carbamates, organophosphates and the like generally have significant withholding periods. Wouldn't want to eat any of them, obviously, but the organic ones are better. You wouldn't want to eat the main organic fungicide though, all copper based ones are pretty poisonous; and you wouldn't want to eat either fertiliser set.
