The Custom Portraits Thread

Recommended Posts

Thanks sp3cw4r! It's my pleasure :)

Finally completed my first pillars portrait minipack! I'd like to continue making more minipacks and eventually bundle them together to create a large portrait pack.

Feel free to modify these as needed for personal use. You may post your modified portraits online, all I ask is that if you plan on redistributing the originals please link them from either my tumblr post or my post on deviantart. Each portrait is painted from scratch and takes anywhere from 5 - 12 hours to complete, which adds up pretty quickly. Links back are always appreciated :D

Those are fantastic - thanks for sharing 8)

Amazing portraits, Amegani.

djphong, was male 41_b drew by Eve Venture? It reminds me a lot of her usual drawings.

I just found this while looking at the "Traditionalist Western Art" facebook feed. I searched for the image, but I can't find who the author is. BTW, might be a good idea to look for "andrey shishkin paintings" in Google. Some suitable images come up.

It does appear to be Andrey Shishkin, a modern Russian artist. Can't seem to find the title but here's one of the many places the image is linked and credited to Shishkin:

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man

Just bought the game not to long ago, a few weeks. So far really enjoying it but I wanted something a little unique for my orlan's so I fiddled with some of the in game portraits. I thought I would share them because I think orlan's need more portraits! (really there needs to be more portraits period, lol)

Hearth Female Orlan: For my cipher, just adjusted some of the coloring to reflect my character.

Wild Female Orlan: a blending of two of the in game portraits, wanted something a bit different for my wild orlan druid.

I've got quite a LOT of portraits left over from when I was playing the EE versions of Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, as well as Icewind Dale.   I notice quite a few people are posting without crediting the original artist, is that acceptable here?  I'm assuming it's bad form.    I'd like to post some of my favorites, but I want to be clear on what the rules are first.

Well it is "bad form" but at the same time sometimes crediting the original artist is a lot easier said than done.  Long and short of it is you won't get in trouble (with the mods at least) if you don't but no one is certainly going to be anything other than happy if you do.

Alright then, here is a cross-section of artists that I really enjoy. Most of these portraits are cropped for the correct portrait dimensions from larger pictures. I tried to stick mostly to pictures that have that Infinity Engine feel to them.  Also, while most of the pictures I chose are of females, the artists themselves often have a vast array of different works. I very much recommend you check their linked web galleries.

I apologize if I linked too many pictures in a single post but I have HUNDREDS of collected pieces across deviantart and drawcrowd, as well as a handful of pictures that I haven't been able to find the original artist for.  It was very difficult to trim it down to just these few.  Apologies in advance to people on mobile devices.   xD

Although I prefer to find original artwork, another really good tool I've found, if I need to make a custom portrait that matches my character more closely, is to fire up any number of F2P MMORPGs and use their character creators.  EVE online, Guildwars 2, and TERA  have pretty detailed character generators with LOTS of sliders, but any number of games out there might have the style of character you're looking to create.

A couple more "subtle" alterations for a female Deathlike.

6gpKIhE.png

Based on: http://pre04.deviantart.net/f80f/th/pre/f/2014/024/3/9/necrotic_lissandra_by_dreamphaser-d73jzoh.jpg

And

Based on the original found in the game folder.

Basically, i wanted Deathlike that looked more like they were a little unnerving, less like zombies with their skin shleffing off.

Two more portrait tweaks. One was a fire godlike from the game, the other was an old custom portrait for Baldur's Gate.

The first one, the adjustments are obvious. The latter, I tried to subtly alter some facial features, not just un-pinking the robe. Hard to make it less blurry without it looking too "real"....

You are probably right. I took the horns from "male_godlike_nature_b_lg" and the heads are at slightly different angles. Additionally, they are supposed to come out of the forehead, but that seemed like it would be a little awkward in that picture. Hmm, now that I look closely at it, I think I set the horns correctly, but when i layered the hair back over it to hide the seams, it kinda screwed up where it looks like its "attached".

I actually don't know all that much about picture alterations, I've mostly just been winging it.
