PoE Embargo ends March 23rd, Backers wait for the 26th?

This isn't to denigrate the backers or what they mean to this project. We love you guys and what you do for this project more than you can know.

For what little it's worth, I genuinely believe that you're lying when you say that. Actions speak louder than words, and Obsidian's actions over the past year or so have strongly indicated that you see backers as nothing more than a disposable money source, that's become an inconvenience.

Engagement from Obsidian has been by far worse than any other Kickstarter I've ever backed, and PoE is really the only Kickstarter I can think of that I regret backing. I can't help but compare Obsidian to InXile, who have been consistently exemplary, and wonder where it all went wrong.

Wahahaha, are you trolling or being serious? Sometimes it's so hard to tell. Regardless, it must really suck to be you and pissed off at the entire world. Don quixote had nothing on you. Edited by rheingold

Ah yes, you've been here a whole three days longer than me and therefore you feel it's okay to make a personal attack against the 'newcomer'. Carry on.

I'm absolutely serious. I can't see any other rational interpretation of the facts.

I confess I was pretty pissed off at one point last year, but that feeling has long ago turned into a general weary disappointment.

I've been a little irked by Obsidian and the media for Pillars.

The press had seen a showing of the game last year before backers which we were then told we wouldn't see.  Then I log onto twitch to see that press and youtubers/streamers have early access before backers again.

I'm not going to go nuts about this, but it seems like Obsidian have been favouring the press over the backers for most of this project.

There is no reason they can't just give this out to the backers now.  Broken Age did the same thing and they had to change because of the backlash.  I mean in a couple of days it'll be all forgotten when we are enjoying the game, but it's a little sad that the hype has been tainted a few times along this journey.

I really don't see what is the problem with Obsidian/Paradox' approach in this matter.

Indeed. It's sound marketing strategy.

I think it's easy to feel that it's a bit "unfair" that us backers who put money into the game, spent time here providing feedback and all that during development, played the backer beta and so on and so forth gets "put aside" a bit for some random streamer, some of which are basically clueless as to the game that has become so close to us. It's easy to feel entitled I think, I do as well.

I don't disagree with the decision though as I want the game to do well and I think streaming beforehand via popular channels is a great source of "free" advertising basically.

But it does irk me somewhat to see some random idiot (in my eyes of course, they tend to have followings) get to play the full game before *me*, (me me me! :p ) who scooped my hard-earned cash into it a couple of years back.

It's silly but understandable I think.

Probably just entitlement, but I thought that was the reason for backing?

Now now. Please don't try making sense :)

In a couple of days this will be mostly forgotten but people who feel slighted should still be able to voice their concerns without getting the Riot Act. I got called some pretty harsh things for saying this launch kinda sucks for backers.

The streamers get to play the game only 3 days before we can...3 days...we have waited to 2 years for the game and people are pissed of because because Obsidian gave some streamers some keys prior the launch? They even got good reasons for that...I dont even understand what the fuss is about, does that count as first world problems?

We even get the Day 1 Patch for our playthrough what the streamers dont have, thats means when we start the game it is just going to be even more awesome.

Just go play some other game in the meantime and BOOM you can play PoE. Seriously, 72 hours is really not that long...

A month is nothing. A week isn't that long. 72 hours is pretty long. 24 hours is a tough burden. 1 hour is maddening.

The day one patch is hardly a reasonable argument. Obsidian could have given backer a choice. Play the game now, without a patch, or wait until release day to play with a patch.

And some of just don't get that it's not about three days for most of us who criticize Obsidian. It's about their general behaviour towards backers in the past weeks and months. It almost feels like we are just troublesome and they had to do stuff for us although we won't pay them (again) for it. I don't know, I've followed more community and backer related and centered development of kickstarter games than this one. Here I almost have the feeling of being a second rate buyer. New buyers and press always being first while backers maybe get their stuff as well. someday in the future, if we're nice...

There is for example still no official word on the shipping process and when we will get our stuff. Not even talking about an official excuse for the huge delay for Europeans. It's all pretty shadowy and I see now sign of any serious attempt to make it better. Main thing the press and new buyers are happy I guess...

So, uh... people are mad that journalists get to play 3 days before the game is released, something that every single game in the universe does unless they want to make sure there's nobody to review the game and they would really like to declare bankruptcy? Ooooooookay.

(Unless you think Obsidian should take exactly this moment to stand on a soapbox and declare to the world, Guess what guys Youtube streamers shouldn't qualify as journalists and shouldn't have as much influence! Everyone, stop paying so much attention to Youtube streamers! I'm sure that would work really well for everybody.)

No, that's not what we're mad about. We're mad about not getting the option to play the game early as well. We're mad about how Obsidian treats us backers and the whole development of this game in general.

And this is a game funded by fans. IMHO other rules should apply here than for a traditional game funded by a publisher or by the devs' own money. Simple.

I love how I broke the internet with this one. I also love how many, many, many people have missed the point.

Just to be clear on something (AGAIN), youtuber/streamer =/= reviewer. Also the review embargo is still set for the 26th. I have yet to see a solid argument explaining how streamers/youtubers getting the game 4 days before backers increase sales versus if they had got it (for free might I add) on the 26th like us and the public (backers and random buyers are worth the same apparently). Do pre-orders count for more than day ONE sales now? Is that how the gaming market works?

Anyways at this stage there's no point in arguing over this anymore. The damage has been done (or not done). Depending on which side of the coin you're on. Still looking forward to Thursday. We should at the very LEAST be entitled to a midnight launch. :D

What do you mean by delay for Europeans? Haven't realy been on these forums so I have no clue, just came here since I saw those twitch-streams popping up as well and was wondering what that was all about (and am also a little annoyed about it).

That's how every damn market in the whole damn world works. It doesn't even matter if youtubers are reviewers or not, because they are youtubers and they get views. A business would use that to their advantage and, especially in the case of Obsidian, it's not something to be disgruntled over. It's not about evil capitalism that steals from you (that would be EA or Ubisoft) - this is a small company that was in deep financial trouble before PoE got kickstarted. Man, I really don't get how some people can be so unappreciative. You're part of a movement that could potentially be the movement that brought cRPGs back from the dead. You even get mentioned in the credits, you have a lot of exclusive stuff coming your way. How can you not be satisfied, just because someone else gets a different privilege. While I agree that the world would be a better place without casino capitalism (uh, I'm a dirty cultural marxist!), I also think that the world would be a better place, if people could stop wanting more and more. You've given a lot and you've been given a lot. Appreciate that, just for a second. Appreciate that the devs thank you at every opportunity, appreciate that you're getting Baldur's Gate 3 in disguise - something that nobody thought was possible only a few years back. Appreciate.

People watch youtube videos of a game they had no interest in or wouldn't buy before. After seeing gameplay they decide to buy it, this has been around for awhile.

Sure I would like to play it now but I have no issue with them getting keys to reviewers/youtubers quicker. Not sure why some are acting entitled, reviewers and youtubers get games before everyone else, just the way it has been and the way it is. Be patient and play in a few days!
