[480] Resting cinematics lag

Starwars

Question

Despite the game running pretty well on my rig overall (get some FPS slowdown in the Skaen temple), the little resting cinematics are quite choppy for me which seems a bit strange. I thought that was just the way they looked until I saw a video of someone else playing (think it may have been one of the recent showings of the game) where they were much smoother.

Seems kinda weird that a simple thing like that should cause FPS drops.

From Roby Atadero via PM about this issue from a few days ago

The FPS drops seem to happen for me on all of the movies. The Unity movie player hasn't been the fastest thing since we started using it. When I profile it, it just shows that it's taking a bunch of time in code we don't have access to.

Maybe Unity will improve their movie rendering in the future or we will find some special trick we haven't figured out quite yet. Focus lately has been on improving other areas of the game and reducing bug count.

Does the initial splash screen(Obsidian, Paradox, Kickstarter) use the movie player, too? That runs fine.

I know, I pointed that out via PM.

However when they used the old Obsidian logo it used to get 90 FPS for me. New one gets 120. I suppose with more stuff going on in the movie, the Unity movie player starts lagging.

WTB Bink Video (or hell, even a VLC plugin lol).

Strange thing is I don't recall movies lagging in Wasteland 2.
