What are you playing while waiting for PoE to come out?

Recommended Posts

I tried Original Sin a while ago but it didn't grab me. The two-PCs seemed wonky and I couldn't get over the cartoony graphics.

I feel exactly the same.

I actually first heard about D:OS when I was googling for info on PoE (after I'd miss the kickstarter). The reviews got me really excited and I bought it without really giving it much thought. I'm kind of gutted I did though.

I did not enjoy myself in Original Sin's first town and since the towns are usually my favorite part of a game I thought that was a bad sign.

I will revisit it sometime though

I can see that.  Its pretty much THE town in the game, and, as such, fairly large as maps/areas go relative to the rest of the game.  I felt that it slowed the pace of the game down by being introduced so early.

But being the only real hub of the game it doesn't really offer that much content. You can skim through everything in probably less than an hour if you explore, two at best. There is really nothing to do in that town other than steal paintings and golden plates, then selling them to the poor sods in the market (that is literally the most time consuming thing in the city)

KOTOR 2 with the Sith Lords Restored Content Mod.  Since the main game came out on GoG and the mod team just released an updated version, I figured it was time to try it; I gave it a skip the first time around due to the buggy reputation and too-early release.  The modded version has not disappointed, especially on the story and roleplaying aspects.

The two PCs are there to facilitate co-op play.  It is a little wonky if you are just gonna play solo, which probably most people do.  I would urge you to give it another chance.  I thought it was a fantastic game.  Love the combat.

Well the combat can only hold a game for so long until it becomes tiresome. The roleplay aspect of the game is almost non-existent. Sure, you get few branching dialog trees, but the dialog itself is so mundane and unimaginative that after 5 or so hours I just started reading in between words to get the general sense of conversation and just opt to start combat asap. The main story is bland and side content is as generic as it can get. Companions have few dialog lines, but they are so one-dimensional it is hard to take them serious, since after first conversation you can pretty much guess what they are going to talk about. The co-op aspect of the game is where it shines tho. I played it with a friend and we had tons of fun goofing around since the game engine itself is very solid and allows for great variety in overcoming obstacles. However playing the game alone was not fun at all, at least for me.

Only reason why I bought D:OS was to have some multiplayer game to play with my sister. It's really fun in coop. I am normally more interested in story, but it being so unimaginative, I enjoyed combat more. Especially playing together with a friend combat is rather fun. It's great to have someone laugh at you because you messed up your spell badly or maybe have someone else see how you eliminated a whole group of enemies through a cool combo.

Dungeon Siege II. Got my Nature Mage up to 63. Few more runs and I'll start a new game in the Veteran (70+) world. Once that is done I'll stop.

I started DSIII but I don't enjoy it nearly as much as I do DSII.

If I still have time, IWD. I never played through the series yet and it'll be a good lead up to PoE =)

This.

Otherwise, working my way through The Secret World, excellent setting and some good writing, brought down by all the normal issues with MMOs -- I do appreciate it at least trying to be different though. Just got to Egypt, which has dampened my enthusiasm somewhat, I really liked the initial Lovecraft Country abandoned little town setting and, while I think that the Egypt zones aren't necessarily objectively worse, they're just not getting me on the same level. I have high hopes for the Aten cult though.

Wow they actually finished that?  Huh.  I may have to try that sometime.

I tried to start Mask of the Betrayer for NWN2 because I couldn't get back into my main game save file.  Only problem is I can't decide on a character because the class system is so complicated and varied.  There is such a thing as too many options.  I'm glad PoE is going to be more straight forward so I don't have to spend quite so many years over thinking how I should build my character.

So I'm still stuck playing lame League of Legends, boooo

Grand Theft Auto's new heists. It's somewhat unsatisifying because you are invariably teamed up with psychopaths, who can't go five seconds without shooting a cop. That's bad news when you're trying to take a score; a four star police escort is not the best way to deliver a vehicle to holding.

I've been thinking I might do a run of BG1 and 2, if this dulls out.

I actually adore the class sytem in NWN2. I probably spent more time crafting various builds than playing the game. However, the game is very forgiving and quite easy. You can simply roll a single class and go with "recommended" settings and complete the game without too much trouble. Obviously, creating your own build will be more fun, but if you don't have the patience for it, just roll with any random class - the story is worth it.

Neverwinter Night since I never completed it and Dragon Age: Inquisition on nightmare, which is the most frustrating thing I ever played in a RPG, M&K and top camera just does not work for that game which is hilarious.

I can't play any of the Dragon Age games on Nightmare (never really tried the first one, I don't think.) It just becomes "multiply all enemy damage/health by X," and it's ridiculous. Sure, if you do everything just right, it's not bad, but I hate a game that offers you a plethora of character customization, then says "only these few are effective enough to beat a challenge as tough as this difficulty level, though."

In DA 2, most enemies became immune to 50% of spell damage types from my Mage. So, basically half my spells did nothing to them. *shrug*.

Strangely, I completed all the Mass Effect games on Insanity, and only had trouble with a few encounters throughout.

Should we not start with some Ipelagos, or at least some Greater Ipelagos, before tackling a named Arch Ipelago? 6_u

They are not my favorite games when it comes to gameplay but it is a moderated challenge, and I do like to experiment with specializations like tempest dual dagger and so on but yes it is not the best system, and to tell you the true the only game that made me really like the gameplay side of RPGs was The Witcher 2 lol most of the time I play on easy or normal because I am more invested in the story.
