On my way to recovery, its a little annoying to be woken up at 2, 4, 6 and 8am to get antibiotics. But at last my white blood cell count is down from life threathning" to "above nornmal". The doctors were a little more forthcoming with details and I was apperantly alot closer to dying last sunday than I'd like to imagine :(

Good to hear man.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

Wow, very scary

Its always  very sobering when we realize how close we are sometimes to life threatening developments

well, it is good to hear that you are out of danger. sounds like you had the bacterial variety, yes?  you are a bit older than is the typical meningitis sufferer.  am glad they were able to diagnose and treat you quickly enough.

am no med expert, but viral meningitis swept the ucsb campus when we were there a Long time ago, so we heard at least a little about the disease from all the doctors and nurses that were explaining to us the dangers/symptoms/treatments o' the disease.

get well.

Impressive work, Oru.

Quote
“Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.”

-Jonathan Littell <<Les Bienveillantes>>
Quote

"The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete."

Isn't this from that KS website where you make your own figurines?

Nice anatomy. Is it all sculpted or did you model it first? How's your topology? I'm not much of a modeler/sculpter myself, that'd probably take me a lot longer than a day. I'm much more effective at makin' 'em move.

I think my brains auditory cortex is a misogynist, I couldn't understand female voices on the phone if my life dependent on it which causes trouble at work.  The strange thing is, according to the doc my sense of hearing is excellent and I have no problems with hearing high pitch sounds. Maybe thats just adaption from having too many female family members?

I got my new laptop, it's shiny!  Haven't tried any games on it yet.

I also ran 3 miles on my lunch break, to make Woldan jealous, it was 70 degrees out.   tongue.png

That's warm for you celsius folks.

Get a desktop, you filthy casual. What specs ?

Here it is: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/msi-gt70-dominator-895-17-3-laptop-intel-core-i7-8gb-memory-1tb-hard-drive-aluminum-black/5142092.p?id=1219111591490&skuId=5142092

My house is like a battleground.  I prefer a mobile operations center to a stationary base.  That way I can hide in a closet with my laptop when the stuff hits the fan.

Ah not bad, I need (well "need") a new laptop, current one as a wonky power jack and a dead battery. Only really use it to pass time when I am downstairs, so it is hard for me to justify to myself blowing a grand on a toy I won't use much (my PC though, I am ok with blowing 2.5 grand on tongue.png)

My mom cracked me up today, still laughing a bit over it. Were talking about books for some reason and then she stops and says that she used to read a lot, names authors then said she stopped when she had my sister and I. Then concludes with "You two ruined my life"

Spent a month in Vegas this week (Sun-Wed). Had an awesome time and am pretty sure I have compromised my liver by ~20%. My wife and I are oldsters so we don't go to night clubs, preferring regular bars. We found a place selling $5 shots of Petron. Then there was something about beer pong (first time player). Then I got talked into riding a mechanical bull but thank god we got distracted and that never happened. We started talking to an Aussie and his girlfriend that were playing on the next beer pong table over and they turned out to be super cool and fun to hang out with. I hope I start pooping solid again soon. :(

I assume you mean a week, a month in Vegas would be insane.  :p

I'm super pumped about my upcoming Vegas trip in February.  Did you do Beer Pong at that new place in the Linq?

We are staying at Caesar's and going to a couple very nice restaurants.  I'm also too old for night clubs.

Hehe, I was meaning that the four days we were there felt like a month of drinking.

The beer pong and bull riding were at the PBR Rock Bar and the cheap Petron shots were right around the corner from there at the Sin City Brewery.

Caesar's Palace has one of the best buffets in the city but its a little pricey for a buffet (~$45 / each).

Linq is right across the alley from Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville. We had dinner there Wednesday, which was kinda crap tbh, but the atmosphere and servers make it fun.

I'll have to make my way down to the PBR, we usually do some shopping in the Miracle Mile Mall.  Sin City Brewery has a few locations around the strip, I actually had a number of drinks there while my wife shopped last summer.  By the end I was agreeing to pretty much anything she wanted to buy.  I even bought her a major cleavage shirt from Sin City that basically is only wearable in Vegas or behind closed doors.   ;)

Sin City Brewery actually brews all their beers at Gordon Beirsch, so they are pretty good.

edit:  $45 is nothing for dinners in Vegas, we are eating at Nobu one night and I expect it to be close to $300.

I just got an inquiry....wow just wow.  I'm absolutely certain that some of my customers, clearly and without a doubt, suffer from multiple levels of insanity. This may sound funny but once you realize those people are really serious it starts getting scary.

Wrapping up some minor chores, pondering whether to nap or play a game. I think nap is winning this time.

Also trying to figure out how to get something other than a female robotic voice saying "I'm sorry, I don't understand that phrase, please speak again" at Comcast TV's helpline. Basically, they don't want you to cancel any channel and thus make it impossible. Yes I tried pressing 0 and # already. I need to find another number to call...

Edit: *big yawn* ... yup, nap it is.

It occurred to me that it's still legal for animals (re:dogs) to sexually harass/assault humans. Why is it still socially acceptable for a dog to attempt to rape a person? Just because a leg can't be penetrated doesn't mean there was no attempted rape. No, it's not cute, it's disgusting. Yet somehow the victim becomes the villain just for defending themself. If you think of your dog as your "baby" then why are you content to watch your child attempt a rape in front of you?

tl;dr I learned today not to go to parties hosted by people who have dogs.
