how do i split items?

I mentioned this to be a bug way back when and the bug list says that they fixed this in v333. Can someone show me how to split my stacks of vegetables or fruits?

Obsidian, please make this easier than it currently is. I've tried double-clicking, right clicking, shift clicking....but nothing works. Is there some weird way to do this?

My blog is where I'm keeping a record of all of my suggestions and bug mentions.

^so left click to pick it up then right click to split it?

Does just right clicking do something else? (if not, wouldn't it be easier just to use right click straight off the bat?)

Agreed, who thought of that control :p

Should be double-click like the IE games. I think in this patch Obsidian added double click to equip or something, which I actually find really frustrating because it makes me stuff up moving around items all the time because I click fast.

Double-click to equip items surprised me and I did it by mistake a few times. I know it's more economical than drag&drop over the character's model, but I was used to that. Also, it works for equippable items, but does nothing for unequippable, which I think is inconsistent and additionally unintuitive for a new player who is having a difficult time telling which items he can equip and which not.

What they can do is ctril click or shift click to move to equip as that isn't as important of an action as splitting items.

Double clicking to equip item is common, it's present in most games I play (although I prefer drag and drop personally). Shift+click is common for splitting items in those games too.

Right click while holding stack is really, really weird though.

I don't know how common it is, but it was inconvenient for me. I found myself equipping items because of clicking too fast on more than one occasion.

I don't post often, but I go through and read the forums when I can and have my testers write up/research issues that people are bringing up.

This is totally unintuitive....

I wouldn't say totally. For what it's worth, left-clicking uses the thing you're holding (in this case, a stack o' stuff) in interaction with the container/location upon which you're clicking (places the whole item in whatever slot/spot), so it kind of makes sense that a different kind of clicking would still generate an interaction between the "held" item and the inventory slot.

Minecraft (and some other games that involve a lot of inventory item interaction... typically because of crafting, etc. -- I think some MMOs do it?) use this same function, wherein right-clicking while holding a stack typically places 1 of the item into that spot at a time, instead of the whole stack.

Anywho, I'm not trying to say "You should've just known how to split items! OBVIOUSLY right-click is the item-splitting button!" or anything. But, to be fair, there's not really anything inherently intuitive (or more intuitive) about pressing some other random button on the keyboard while you click. It makes sense to think that pressing ALT or CTRL or SHIFT while clicking would modify my regular click action, as those keys are modifier keys, but nothing but sheer precedent tells me that they will specifically split a stack that I am clicking on.

I'm sure the very first game that did that got a lot of "WTF"s for it. "How was I supposed to know that?!" Well, really, ideally, you'd know from a full manual/tutorial/in-game-help-screen, etc. OR, I guess there could be a little "split" button on every item icon. That would be the most visually intuitive. But, there may be a better solution than that...

Annnnnnywho.

It was the combination of the two clicks I did not think of.  I tried left click which picked up fine.  I tried Right click which brought up description fine.  Never thought to  left click and then while holding the item to right click to split.
