Show of support for Pillars of Eternity

To the developers,

 

I just wanted to post this to say that I fully support the game and that  I think the game is coming along very, very well. I think some of the posts on the forum can be a little misrepresentative of the overall community. 

I just want to say that a lot of the bile is probably coming from a small vocal minority of backers. 

 

Obsidian has made fantastic games. New Vegas, NWN II, KOTOR2 were amazing games. 

You have a great team working very, very hard on the game. 

 

I just wanted to voice some words of encouragement and to say that I really appreciate all the hard work that everyone had put into making the game. 

I have full confidence that Pillars will be a great game.

It just dawned on me that Obsidian did indeed make a game with almost exactly the same combat system where characters perform actions in a pseudo turn-based manner. 

It's called Knights of the Old Republic 2.

 

And guess what, it was a damn fine game, because characters were not frozen between actions; they actually had varied animations between each action and depending on the equipped weapons, and everything was very smooth and clear.

 

So, the complete opposite of what we have in Pillars of Eternity.

 

 

I hope you are right and this is just a temporary aberration.

Yup, funnily enough animations and graphics are not the most important issue with the game. Story, characters, music, mood helps a bit.... The guys at obsidian seem to understand that, particularly Chris Avellone. As long as it is well written I'll be happy.

So far im really loving the package and the writing and looks and feel is amazing to me. Im in love with it warts and all. I know the writing is gonna be fantastic from their past games and even the lil glipse we see in the beta. Love the character creation as well even though i still make pirates after pirates lmao.

Somebody will belch irrational complaints no matter how awesome a game is. It makes me wonder what exactly those people expect, what types of games they enjoy. My guess is that they are nothing like Pillars of Eternity or the Infinity Engine games. Regardless, rather than feed said trolls it's best to add them to your ignore list. Arguing with them just bumps their threads to the top of the list, and perpetuates negativity.

 

Having played the backer beta, I concur that Pillars is shaping up to be a classic. No amount of forum trolling will change that. But wouldn't it be nice for Obsidian if said trolls found something better to do with their time?

 

Tip: To ignore a troll, follow these steps:

  1. Click the little down arrow next to your name in the upper-left corner of the screen (you must be logged in) and click Manage Ignore Prefs.
  2. Type the troll's name into the text box and check all three of the checkboxes, then click Save Changes.  You will no longer see posts from said ****; their threads will still appear in the list, but the content of their posts will be hidden unless you click "View" on a per-post basis.
  3. Enjoy the fresh air!

I've seen plenty of gaming opinions in here that don't match my own, so I'm definitely taking the assorted negativity with a big truckload of salt grains.

 

I remember those very well. Snow plows, taking the assorted negativity of winter off the streets.

I too would like to express utmost support and deep appreciation to the Obsidian-PoE Team.

 

I know you people are doing your best to produce the great game all of the community has envisioned and waited for years upon years.

Matilda is a Natlan woman born and raised in Old Vailia. She managed to earn status as a mercenary for being a professional who gets the job done, more so when the job involves putting her excellent fighting abilities to good use.

That's pretty presumptive. Certainly some people are being overly negative, but most criticisms I've read regarding the beta have been fairly measured, insightful and given in the spirit of wanting to help the game get better through a combination of iteration and feedback. Personally, I like Obsidian (otherwise I never would have given them so much of my money over the years and for this project) but there are considerable issues that have yet to be fixed before PoE will be good or fun; I fully expect the story, plus choices and consequences to be excellent, but the combat is a hot mess. Pointing that out in a constructive way doesn't make anybody a hater.

However, there are other sorts of negativity, and those are usually tied to an agenda that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the Beta. This agenda is usually an intensive dislike for part or all of the developer's vision, most usually because the developers departed from some elements of the IE games, though rarely because the developers haven't departed from them enough. These people try to push their agendas through a variety of threads, and are usually very combatitive and loud.

Obsidian has their work cut out for them chasing down all the bugs, improving the animations, etc., so I suggest that you contact the makers of Cialis for sponsorship of this award. When the time is right to be the Pillar of the Community...

Makes sense, but let's see what they'll release in 5-6 months before making any conclusion.

 

PS: I fully support the PoE team, thanks for everything guys! Can't wait to play the final release.

Thank you people for parasitizing this thread with your off-topic discussions. There are plenty of other threads to argue about specific points of the game or to criticize the game too.

 

I will give my two-cents and show a bit of support. Thanks you developers for reviving this genre and making some changes at the same time. Kept the engagement mechanics, the no-bad build objective, your distance with DnD systems, the weapons system.

Thanks you again and i wish you plenty of luck for the project.

I don't know Nipsen's posts are over the top, but I also agree with his main point he is just stating poorly.

 

Obsidian (or Josh if you prefer) had a clear design goal and idea for Eternity.  Much of it has been changed since the backer beta started.  We don't know how much was due to whingeing on the forums, QA feedback, or internal tests.  I hope Obsidian is not willing to compromise their key design principles to satisfy a bunch of whiny people on the internet.  I do know that I don't like the current stat system.  I don't mind the 10 being 0, I do mind how tiny the stat changes are going up and down.  I do mind that Dex was changed to something that has nothing to do with Dexterity, that Int has Deflection, and that the fairly neat idea of interupts being in a stat was removed.

You might have misread something I said, I'm eagerly awaiting the next patch and will be providing more of the same.

 

Seari was talking about nipsen, I'm pretty sure - he's disappointed over the v301 attribute changes.
