Hello guys. Though I don't get a Backer Beta permission, I watched many of yous playing the Beta on Twitch and I noticed the greatsword weapon models in PoE.

Well, generally speaking, I think those "greatswords" are too short that just like bastard swords. And more imporantly, they're almost swords in the mid-medieval era style, since the world of PoE is reach the technology level of late Middle Ages or even early modern era and there are so many Renaissance era style weapons( such as arquebus, estoc and rapier) and armours(such as paladin's brest-plate) i the game, shouldn't the greatswords of PoE looks like the zweihanders or flamberges in 16th century?

Pretty sure the greatswords are inspired by historical longswords, not zweihanders. Also, most flamberges were actually rapier variants.

Well, I do not mean that I aganist the longsword-like greatsword, I just think that zweihander-like weapon should also in the game refer to the technology level of the PoE world.

While that's a different matter, you do need to see that zweihanders were military weapons used for breaking helmets from behind the very front line, or to break up pike formations. It's not entirely known how they were used (few sources and all that), but it is known they weren't really used much in individual duels or in skirmish combat, which is what this game is showing us. I honestly don't mind leaving them out, and I do think it's too late to try and get them in now. The art assets would be quite expensive I would think, not to mention animations.

I don't think this is a reason. All weapons are "military weapons" which are not made for duel or skirmish combat especialy, except for the rapier. For example pike a weapon use in the battle array not for duel, should it be cut from the game?

Though I know it may be too late to talk about this, too.

Gosh no zweihanders, this isn't anime and my character can't swing that sword. I agree with Greensleeve, they're military weapons and have no place in this game. Same with the pike and heavy armor. You don't walk around in that, you just don't.

I'd like to see them but maybe used by large humanoid enemies.

I agree that those very specialized renaissance swords probably wouldn't be something an adventurer would carry about. Though at the same time I don't think it would be an impossibility. Also NPC guards/soldiers certainly might use such a weapon.

That is a fair point, and I was actually rather disappointed that they chose to include something called a pike in the game. However, when actually shown, the pike is hardly renaissance military pike length. It's more of a long spear than a pike, which frequently reached 15-20 feet. Given this, I do feel that a greatsword inspired by the historical longsword is a much better fit than the huge zweihanders.

Something to bear in mind regarding all this is that the monsters in PoE place different demands on adventurers. I would actually like to see zweihanders in the game (maybe as an expansion) as specialised weapons for killing large creatures, like ogres, dragons, wyverns, what have you. I think that would be a great fit and give a really cool spin to things.

Going to have to disagree.  Playing the beta myself and Great Swords are easily about 75% the height of a human with very wide blades.  They are not weapons you could swing with one hand my any stretch of the imagination.

I read about zweihander dueling in a fairly old book on dueling with various swords so it was probably a thing back in the day.. I have a zweihander at home and it's only about 3 kg's,, really not that hard to wield, only a bit technical because of how long it is.. It's important to note that they aren't really very wide at all. The technique is very different from other two handed swords like the claymore and such though. Two handed blades in games should be no larger than a claymore, if they are they should be put in a sepparate category.

The model should be tweaked a bit,, made to be a bit narrower while still feeling like a fairly long large sword..

Also the pike is pretty long, I used an Exceptional Pike for quite a bit in game and it was easily twice my characters height.  Maybe it is slightly short for "realism" but in reality no one outside of a shield wall would ever use a spear in the type of fighting you do in a underground dungeon etc.  Well maybe a short spear, certainly not a pike.

Man those guys are over priced as holy hell.  Those don't even look like traditional hand forged swords.  1.5k for what looks like a machine made blade?  F that.

I just don't know what's wrong with "military weapon"? Weapons are firstly made for military use, If my fighter is a soldier from an army or a mercenary formerly, of course he should carry a military weapon rather than a fencing weapon for duel.
