The visual effects accompanying environments and spells in Pillars are stunning – even a placeholder effect featuring a doge that includes the words “so temp” and “much replace” is impressive.

What the hell.....

Is that Sawyer's work desk?

Why is that damn capitalist swine Tom Nook there?  It is now clear.... this game is a trap.  If you buy into it not only will the Raccoon Mafia be on you for life but you will learn the fear of the ten year loan.

why do you fear the raccoon dog so, Karkarov?

While Tom Nook is considered to be greedy by 1UP.com, Rich Amtower and Reiko Ninomiya, members of Nintendo's Treehouse localization team disagreed, describing him as a nice person. Amtower described him as "that first boss you ever had", adding that despite being all business and sometimes not having time for pleasantries, he is not a bad person. He adds that Nook's hiring of someone new to town involved risk, which shows generosity. Ninomiya agreed, and both felt that Nook's greed is diminished by the city's price index compared to that of his shop. Amtower jokingly alludes to an "anti-Nook bias" several times throughout the interview with 1UP.com.

Hey man last time I saw Nook I was just looking to buy some note pads with the cute autumn leaf motif.  By the time I left I had been sold a house extension, a new roof, told the local home owners association scored my house poorly and said it was unoriginal, and was suddenly in a locked loan to him for the next 35 years.  Evil bastard.

◦There’s an environmental feature in the game that looks a lot like the Pillar of Skulls from Planescape: Torment, awash with magical energy. We didn’t get any details on exactly what this thing was, but the quick glimpse we had of it let a definite impression.

What I really admire about Obsidian and people like Josh is the immense patience they seem to have to answer the same questions to different gaming journalists over and over again. So in the interview video you have to wonder how many times he has been asked " so how would you describe PoE"?

And he always seems like he is genuinely interested in describing the game and its features....again and again

Oh and I'm glad the interviewer asked about Romance or rather why there won't be any in PoE....let the awareness never end

I'd still like to know more about their second Kickstarter as was subtly hinted in Feargus's interview. Will this be a trend or do they expect PE to make enough in sales to essentially self-fund their own throwback games after the second Kickstarter? Will the 10 to 1 sales to "preorder" ratio holdup? I'd be curious regarding the sales data of Broken Age, Banner Saga, and Shadowrun to see how the ratio holds up for Kickstarted games.

The interview with Josh was great! Every time he opens his mouth, mine start drooling for the even more!

And that tattoo on his arm, did it say "licet Omnia" (everything's permitted)? Is Josh in fact a nihilist? o.O

Indeed. It is interesting how the openess of this kickstarter has lead to many articles being basically obsolete or uninteresting. Just a rehash of what we already know.

I'll do it, for a turnip.

Should we not start with some Ipelagos, or at least some Greater Ipelagos, before tackling a named Arch Ipelago? 6_u

At home he does. I think he said he was using a DAS Keyboard at work.

The images above are his though, so maybe he smashed the previous desk/keyboard in anger? :))

Doubtful, he is probably behind on his loan to the agent of all that is unholy Tom Nook and the Mafia was sent to educate him on his mistake.  He is lucky he got away with only a broken desk and keyboard.

Some interesting bits from those articles:

Obsidian told us that most of the quests and content in the game could be regarded as “optional,” with the caveat that completing a certain amount of quests in a region will be necessary to build up alliances, gain information, and make progress.

I wonder if we'll be able to travel (most of) the world when we want to, or areas will be unlocked? 'Make progress' sounds like it could mean just advancing the main quest rather than opening up new areas.

It would be very interesting if the death of a main character actually still allowed for their soul to affect the ongoing story in a different (even if less significant) fashion. Basically, if it brought something to the table other than just-plain failure and the lack of a useful party member.

Especially considering the soul lore.

I liked the interview with Josh. Some stuff like reputation system. The way your character behaves, will come to be known. He mentioned if through dialogues your character is picking witty lines, that might be how people start to view your character. Whixh is great.

I'm surprised about the dragon, he seems too powerful for a level 12 party.

I like the idea, because it could make it more important how you solved a quest/ what dialog option you choose. e.g. Threats only work if you have a high cruel reputation, lies don't work if you have reputation for beeing Deceptive. I think the best explanation I have found is the following forum post:(minor and average are just how much your reputation increases)

Here are some completely made-up convo scenarios (BTW, all of these tags can be disabled as an option and are off by default in Expert):

NPC: "I can't believe she rejected me! My family bloodline will be broken! What am I supposed to do now?"

1. "I will find someone else for you, a more suitable match. I'll spare no expense and scour all the Dyrwood if I have to!" [benevolent - Average]

2. "You are clearly suited to bigger and better things. The duc is looking for an ambassador to Rauatai. I'm sure you could easily take the position." [Diplomatic - Minor]

3. "Well, you could weep into your beer about it like every other heartbroken would-be lover. If you give up this easily your bloodline deserves to die." [Cruel - Average]

4. [shrug] [stoic - Minor]

NPC: "What are you doing in here without an escort? Wait - damn you, how did you get in here in the first place?!"

1. [intellect 14] [Lie] "Through... the side door. It was ajar and when I knocked I thought I heard someone say to come in. I apologize if I was mistaken." [Diplomatic - Minor]

2. "Charm, guile, maybe a little force. I find one of those three is always the key to opening any door." [Clever - Minor]

3. "Try asking again, this time with a kinder tone, or I'll bury you. Understand?" [Aggressive - Average]

4. "I won't deny I broke in through the side door. I know the thayn is hiding evidence in his study and I'm not leaving without it." [Honest - Average]

In those scenarios, your reputation doesn't have anything to do with being able to select the responses. In the second scenario, only your Intellect is used to gate the first option. How people react to you IS based on your reputation. So, for example, if you picked 1. in the second response, the dude might be swayed and say, "Hmm. Well, you are mistaken. The thayn isn't here today and I'm afraid we aren't taking visitors. Please follow me to the front..."

But let's say you have a well-established reputation for being Deceptive. His response may be, [Deceptive] "Hmm. Well, you are mist- Wait a minute, aren't you <CHARNAME>?" His momentarily confused face twists into an angry sneer. "Well, it looks like your poison tongue has finally caught up with you. You'll regret breaking into the thayn's home!"

These scenarios are completely fabricated, but I hope they illustrate the basics of how the system works.
