Dragon Age: Inquisition

Anita Sarkeesian; who won an ambassador award on GDC, has certainly used the terms rape culture and patriarchy. Terms which seem to originate within that "small"(I have no real knowledge of their numbers) minority. So it has every argument made related to feminism and games its laden with the same tones that belies their origin withing that minority.

I'm not generalizing from a small sample, that small sample happens to be some of the leading feminists in what they call Third Wave feminism and it's being taught in Academia. Otherwise things like Patriarchy and Rape Culture wouldn't have come out from the fringe elements and into the mainstream. I have said before that rational feminism should either rebrand or come out against this insanity. In game culture it seems to have taken deep roots among a group of people who for some reason see it as reasonable or advantageous.

Also; I get the feeling that this is turning into its own discussion and we are still on the DA thread. Although feminism and BW seem to go hand in hand nowadays.

I still strongly disagree with your understanding of feminism but I'll agree that this particular discussion isn't strictly germane to DAI.

So how about that Cullen romance, eh?

From what I know of Cullen right now, it's totally repugnant to me.  I thought he was basically a fascist goon in both of the previous games, so here's hoping he acquires some decent character for DAI.

*sigh* this again?!

It's always the same thing: the boys do something on their own and suddenly the girls wants to tag along, but things have to change to accomodate the girls, because boys and girls think and behave differently. First they try it out, then the boys give up and move on to other things while the girls stay until they get curious about what those boys are up to now...

So putting this into context of male game designers doing what they do and what they are interesting in, but suddenly that tit is too big for Daisy because it makes her feel sad about herself and now Johnny, who didn't pay that much attention, suddenly have to think about how other people would feel about his work or how it might affect the very culture he lives in. So now Johnny has to sacrifice his integrity to make everyone feel good about themselves because the best progress is made when all the Johnnys adapt themselves to the world around them. Or so Sally thought, how silly of her. Jack agrees with her, hoping that it will finally make her see that he is the one that she will give her first kiss to.

Meanwhile we grownups are measuring the stars, studying medicine and are reading literature about the human condition. Sometimes we check on the children to see if they are behaving well and laugh at their antics. Oh look, Timmy is teasing Susie again, i wonder if they will become a real couple when they grow up...

Because being a scientist or a philosopher is obviously beyond the reach of anyone who might agree with the idea of feminism. Got it.

Now, now, settle down there. I hope that i am not taking the matter too personally for you my good sir, but surely you were taught at your local academy that it is quite ungentlemanly and a bit impolite to put words into other peoples mouths, were you not? In no way did i mention that all men who agree with feminism do so in order to get into girls knickers, just some, or only Jack.

Back to things that really matter, namely the female anatomy in Bioware games. While i highly appriciate it, i find it quite immature that a game tries to take itself seriously with the same gags as in pornography. Uncensored plowing in captains cabin is welcome if it matters to the narrative on the relationship between the character and the rest of the crew, or to the story. Sadly, as demonstrated earlier with Mirandas buttocks in ME2, they do not quite get it.

As for DA:I, i have seen no indication of that sort rubbish included there, and i am thankful for it. As for trying to politize gender in an artist's creation? Now that is just plain vulgar.

Can't blame him for taking it personally, can you?  I mean, the massively condescending viewpoint you articulated is one of the reasons why gender equality still doesn't exist.  Particularly this example:

As for trying to politize gender in an artist's creation? Now that is just plain vulgar.

If you have no cause in your life to rally around apart from witch-hunting in a very transitory medium that predominantly caters to teenagers, then your life is in serious trouble bro.

I shouldn't be so surprised that I get so many personal attacks for simply stating an opinion.

It's not obligated to, and in Bioware's games too often comes off as forced. I'd rather they stick with consistent story telling than trying to satisfy a social agenda.

To anyone following the game closer than I've been, have they revealed all the companions yet?

... really?

For the sake of argument, I'm not going to comment.

But please. Do be more condescending and patronizing when arguing your point.

The truth might sting and hurt a bit, but it is alright. We have all been there. But alas, tomorrow you will all feel better; with the air will feeling cleaner as you take a deep breath, the food will taste better, and you will love yourselves and everyone else even more.

Oh agreed absolutely.  I certainly don't want BioWare trying to tell me a social justice epic--I'm just saying that when making a game, developers can't be tone deaf about the choices they make in presenting characters and situations.

They haven't revealed all the companions yet by any means.  Only three of them (Varric, Cassandra, Vivienne) officially out of a total of nine.  There are varying degrees of certainty as to who the remaining six are, from "practically guaranteed" to "wow, I really really hope my favorite character from the novels/comics shows up!"

Ofcourse it can, but so far i have only seen vulgar results. In Bioware's case they better not bother to either, judging by the type people on their forums.

But in the case of the three companions presented so far, i have seen little of that. Which is nice.

Considering BW is a Social Justice Death Star, this is pretty much on-topic.

Where is that Canadian, anyway. Haven't seen him for weeks. Probably has a job, or something. Or making a new Allan Plays Goat Simulator.

I miss him as well, he said he was taking a break from the Obsidian forums

Allan had wimpy arguments. I mean..he worked for EA and all, I get it. But damn, he had no spine on issues. Take a f*cking stand already.

Its funny but I never saw his posts like that. I thought he was always logical and reasonable with his comments. He also made some of the most informed and convincing points around issues of social justice. So I miss his input :)

We really don't need to worry about bioware toning down the looks of women. This is the company that gave us the Asari. A race of lesbian aliens whose boobs aged like wine.

Now having traps appear in DA, that is a very real and present danger. Good luck Bruce!
