Fade to black is a dishonestly lazy way to do any type of scene, and the other two alternatives (graphic and text) ultimatately fail because Game developers are just that: game developers.... not... you know... award-winning Hollywood movie producers and script writers.

... and also because the nature of the medium makes it inherently harder to do in any way other than masturbatory trash.

Is that the game will be classified for adult (mature) ?
I haven't read info about it and the tone could have some dialogue, themes or scenes (such as sex, drugs, cannibalism etc ...)
If you have more details, I'm interested.

I think that this will be game on the same level as BG1, violence + Alkohol, mayby bad language and drugs (but propably no) so any kid that is offended by sexual thames may play this game.

I hesitate to ask, but what, uh... what is "man or woman gameplay"?

If you see no difrences then why put them at all ? Let's make everybody genderless and problem solved.

but seriously..

what are the differences between women and men ? Ask your self ... and im not talking about physical difrences but social.

Firstly men beating a women is seen as bad, woman seducing a large number of men are seen by some as a **** etc etc etc.

Secondlyman reacts to a woman difrently (especially a beautiful one) than for a man. Women can say something to a women that seems normal, but if men says the same thing he coud be slapped in the face ..

I meen social and cultural diffrences.

It's an isometric, party based game - the characters are going to be a an inch or two tall on the screen. So how exactly is "sex" supposed to work in an infinity style game that doesn't use cutscenes? And please don't say Witcher 1 nudie cards

I can't imagine obsidian 2d graphic designers, makeing nude breasts (i don't think that they can or do it). But i agree nude cards was propably the "worst" part of that excelent game.

Sex can be input to a isometric game in several ways :

1. Sound :p

2. Narrative dialog ( you enter and brothel and see one of the workers looking at you and gently lifting up dresses ) etc. or (you se nude women, she was raped by solider, do you want to kill them ?)

The (Sex-scens) in isometric game mostly look like "black screen, mayby some sounds" -----> you se your character need the bed and also a women.

I just started playing the Witcher this week, and I have to say that this is the most hilariously ridiculous part of the whole game, which is itself a forest of hilariously ridiculous things.  The game is not bad but my god, why I do I feel like it was made by a bunch of 18 year old drunk Polish dudes?

I don''t know what you see ridiculous, mayby sex cards or "Witcher libido and infidelity with his relationship" but they are all given to players hand. If you dont want to you can have mayby 2 scenes with the Trish. Besides, i prefer sex-cards then softcore porn in game if i must be hones.

BTW.

Why im starting to think that most of people here, want that game to be as poor as possible and want reduce gameplay to level-ups and storyline like "become the best there is" or "experience a tragedy and kill uber-super-turbo-arch-devil, that at some point turns out that he is your brother or father" ? :) if you know what i mean :p

Damn straight.  By the end of the Witcher 1 I had developed my own Witcher Mini game.  It was called "Find a Woman Geralt actually can't have sex with".  It got real challenging at points let me tell you.

As for PE, it will be Mature more than likely.  You want to avoid an AO rating like the plague though.

I got the sense he just thinks it's dumb when character's are pointlessly sexualized (e.g., female soldiers wearing sexy outfits). If I remember correctly he had no problem with the Planescape Torment companions, and New Vegas had Gomorrah. I don't believe Josh is the narrative lead on PE anyway, so it'll probably depend more on how Chris Avellone and the the other writers choose to approach the topic.

To OP, they said in the Kickstarter pitch it would be an M rated game

Correct but he also sounded very sick of it to me, and relieved that in Eternity that they have the control to prevent it from happening.

I'm all for practical armor. Will be interesting to see what the 'paperdoll' looks like in no armor though, probably very modest (to lacking) in curves. Asha Greyjoy or Brienne of Tarth style (from the ASoIAF books, not the show).

Eh I think the show does a really solid job with Brienne of Tarth.  Her armor can't be called anything other than functional.

Sex worked pretty great with 1 inch pixel characters in Fallout 2 and made for some of the most memorable scenes in the game.

(admittedly a pretty juvenile bruahahaa sort of fun, but still)

Anyhoo, I hope the adult rating means there wont be silly houses of night like in NWN2 where men go have some tea with scantily clad ladies.

Rather, if there are brothels, make them the whorehouses they are. Or don't have them at all.

Platemail nippleguards are probably out anyway, no worries there.

Though if there are brothels, then maybe there are chain bikinis as well.

Mostly though, I hope adult means other things beside sex & violence, for once.

I personally don't care much about so-called "adult" themes because every time a developer tries to implement them it seems forced or half-assed.  The Witcher comes to mind, with its mega sexy times. And while this could be an issue with translation or my unfamiliarity with the franchise, I feel so far that The Witcher's dialog is in many cases cheesy and try-hard.  BioWare has also coughed it up on several occasion with both ME and DA, whether it was the failed renegade/paragon system or the complete lack of any real so-called "racism" after you left your origin story in DA:O.  Whenever developers start saying "Oh yeah, this is going to be adult! And dark! And grim! And serious!" I just tune it out with a yawn.

It is enough for me to know that a studio like Obsidian or InXile is making the game.  Each studio has a body of work that speaks for itself.  I don't need to hear some boring producer/marketer barfing out meaningless phrases on VISCERAL COMBAT and MATURE THEMES!!

Yeah, but her looks in general is "can't be called anything other than functional."

Brienne-of-Tarth-game-of-thrones-3136215

She don't even look like a women.

But on other hand Cercei with is generaly more "womenish" had an armor like this :

tumblr_m6646i7J3S1rqjbleo1_1280_zps346c3

Why ? Becouse they oversexed her look ? Becouse they must give free masturbation material to public ?

No becouse they wanted her to look more like women, and seeing women today i don't think so that they ever wanted to look like men ...

Besides they made Brienne of Tarth look like that becouse of the immersion and story (or shoud i say author of books made her like that) becouse if she whoud look more womenish like cercei she whoud be raped many many times by other soliders so she propably was "hiding" her women "difrences" becouse of that.

I know, right? I'm really sick of this trend towards not being able to tell what sex a character is under their armour. I mean, look at this ****:

vPqn3NK.jpg

Where's the giant codpiece? Where's the mustache on the visor? How am I supposed to know there's not a long-haired lady underneath that helmet? I can't even see the hair on his back. And don't get me started on all that "wasp-waist" armour out there with its seductive hips and its hourglass proportions.

End the erasure of the male form in armour.

EDIT: This is more like it.

tumblr_inline_mgc54yse8k1rnp9q5.jpg

Polish+Hussar+Lady.jpg

or even whout boob plate but dress to look more womenish and not "chainmail-bikini"-syndrome.

History has the unfortunate habit of being vague as ****.

For example, Byzantine accounts of the armies of the First Crusade include descriptions of women in armour. They do not give any account as to the nature of these women or where or if they ever fought.

Ceremonial codpieces and mustaches aside, plate armour of the 15th and 16th centuries trended towards "girly as hell", really. That whole "wasp waist" thing I mentioned earlier?

fpwmMCm.jpg

Turns out an itty-bitty waist and a round thing in your face is actually something most dudes wanted to wear. Rounded edges deflect blows better than flat, and putting weight on your hips is way more comfortable than putting it on your shoulders.

Basically the only thing that makes the game mature these days is whether or not it contains sex, does it not? If you see all the movies and games these days they got strong language and violence and get away with Teen rated.

I don't have the BG2 box anymore, was that game rated mature? Although it did imply sex, the closest thing it got to was:

1:"Love you"

2:"Love you too"

1:"Goodnight!"

So what do you propose they do if putting her in realistic armor and having her act like a man (you know, exactly how she is in the books????) isn't acceptable?

Why Cersei is wearing that is simple.  It isn't armor at all.  She doesn't fight in the books, she doesn't fight anyone in the show, it is retarded "dress" armor that she has for show.  Just like the giant gargoyle shaped cod pieces noblemen used to wear for their portraits cause they thought it made them look more well endowed.

If you want women wearing realistic looking plate armor prepare to look at armor that looks like what Brienne wears in the show.  Because that is realistic armor.  (Other than the color, bronze metal? Terrible for plate armor.)

Realistic armor only if we assume that in game will be no women fighters, why in history women where not fighting ? Becouse they whoud be raped by enemy soliders in most of the time. So there are no "REALISTIC looking armor for women". Women can wear MENS armor but still, it's not "Women made" armor.

On other hand we have planty examples od MENLISH looking armors even in this thred.

But let's assume, there are armors that have ben inspirated by "mens" body here are example :

14730-Roman-Armor-large.jpg

And it even has Nipples !!!!

IF Women, where fighting and men sitting home or both genders where engage in war and fightings with armor. Why do you assume that this type of armor BUT inspired by female body whod be unrealistic if there was planty of men-body inspirated armors ?

Going by your logic, it's unrealistic for wemen to be warrior in general co no women fighters, secondly "priests" where not wearing fullplate armor lige thiscadegund_from_project_eternity_by_staple

But expecionally a female priests (nuns) where wearing something like this :

nuns.jpg

And i don't even will start a conversation about magic, fist monks killing dragons and other parts of "unrealistic" part of the game, but from your stand point there are OK .. so why are you so agins boobplates or female inspired armors ?

Here's an idea! How about we wait to see how exactly the in-game cultures and societies (about which we eagerly await more information) function before assuming that they adhere to real-world traditional values?

Alright, alright, alright. Moving slightly away from the armour thing (because there's a thread on that) and back to gender and mature themes thing in general:

On a basic level, I think I understand the whole "So is this game going to have [taboo thing]?" mentality. After all, the great creative bogeyman - the publisher - is gone. And without that troll under the bridge, people want to see all the things image-conscious publishers might be afraid to include.

Now. Obsidian Entertainment is the successor of Black Isle, of Fallout and Planescape Torment fame. Project Eternity is being headed up by JE Sawyer, lead designer of Icewind Dale 2 and Fallout: New Vegas. Those were games with torture, slavery, prostitution, drug addiction, and more. Their handling of these topics varied from game to game, but generally became stronger and more mature as time went on, and even with publisher oversight, they did not shy away from injecting harsh realities into their games when they found them fitting.

So when someone appears and says, "So is this game going to have (sexual themes/racism/misogyny/whatever people are always god damn asking about)?", I - and a lot of the people who have played past Obsidian and Black Isle games and who have seen them handle these topics - react with derision. Why? Because we can only assume that the asker's interest comes down to seeing their fetishes represented. And we know that this is a totally unfair assessment, but we can't help it. It's the only thing we can think. Because looking back on the history of Black Isle and Obsidian, who but someone worried about the exclusion of their wank material would even ask?

Also, the idea of "female inspired armour" is laughable because it implies that a genderless, sexless, sheet of metal is inherently male, even when full plate armour made for men gradually moved to a more feminine figure as a matter of practicality.

You want to avoid an AO rating like the plague though.

Interesting that you'd bring this up. This is a true statement for AAA titles who's distribution is carried out in the traditional manner (Major outlets like Walmart, Best Buy, Microsoft and Sony and the like simply won't carry Adult Only game titles) thus killing a game's sales.

But would an AO rating have the same effect on a PC-only kickstarter game? Hell, does the ESRB even bother Rating crowd funded games?

Yep, it's pointless to speculate about women's armour when women didn't fight and there is no historical armour that was made for women, if you were going for full earth realism, then it would be pretty pointless allowing you to create a female warrior... but no one wants that, and luckily it isn't historic earth...

not really the right thread for this discussion though.

I am not certain how this thread derailed into female cloth line decisions. I heard/seen nothing in any of the updates, concept arts and or previous titles, that might suggest that oversexualization would be an issue.(can it even be done in iso game, without looking ridiculously exaggerated even for anima style)

Btw to all those who are planning to post more images, please consider using spoiler tags to avoid cluttering the thread.
