What you've been drinking lately.

My wife and I became members of a very good winery called Jason Stephens, and I've been really enjoying their stock.  We are even looking at buying a wine rack, since our little tabletop one can't keep up with our current inventory.  My favorites have been the Syrahs, Merlot, and the Cabernet.

I still tend to prefer beer, but a glass of wine is pretty good with pastas and cheeses.

Nice to live so close to so many places to get good wine isn't it?

It's a good thing I don't live in Kentucky!

Ran out of ale, again. Kahlua and Cocunut Creme coffee creamer. I might have a problem.

Nah, you are just being resourceful. Improvise, adapt, & overcome and all that.

Had to look that term up, I didn't know there was a such thing as a 22oz beer. Back in the day we would try to pound down a 40 or two before going out.

Heh, bombers are pretty much the new trend with all the smaller craft breweries gaining momentum.  Usually you get special release and higher abv in them.  For me, I won't get through a 6 or 12 pack fast enough, and I find the last couple always end up at the back fridge for months.  If I buy a bomber or two, I get some interesting varieties to choose from, and they never go to waste.  It's definitely not more cost effective, since some of the bombers are about the same price as a six pack, but I don't drink enough to worry about that.

They aren't quite malt liquor.  :p

Got a big bottle of homemade "sloe gin" as a gift.

At first I didn't even know if I should open it, because I'm not really into hard liquors.

But now that it's open I have to watch myself to not drink too much per evening, because damn that stuff tastes good.... o:)

Blue Chimay... YUMMY!

EDIT: Also, never been a fan of tequila but then I've always tried the really cheap variants. Had a bottle of Los Tres Tonos Reposado at home, and it's actually damn good.

I was about to make myself a Boulevardier, but I mistakenly grabbed the applejack instead of the whiskey, and didn't realize my error until it was already poured.  That sent me looking for alternate c0cktails that involve both applejack and sweet vermouth (as I have a bottle of Carpano Antica that I want to get through before it starts to turn).  I was intruigued by the Newark, as I also have recently bought a bottle of Fernet Branca that I'd like to get more use out of.  But I didn't have any Maraschino liqueur.  I subbed simple syrup, knowing that maraschino is a very sweet ingredient and that applejack c0cktails usually benefit from a little extra sugar.  I'm calling it the Jersey City-- kinda like Newark, but not quite.

Final recipe is 2 oz. Laird's Apple Brandy, 1 oz. Carpano Antica, 0.25 oz. Fernet Branca, 0.25 oz. simple syrup.

It's not bad.

Gatorade. Lots of it. Buy the crystals because then its like 50 cents a litre. I work in a warehouse with no air conditioning so its like 30-35 degrees most of the summer and doesn't cool down at night.

Soooo, you guys have been a good inspiration before. I need a good wine, spicey flavour and good with many kinds of meals.

A good red wine to fall back on, so to speak.

Do any of you have a favorite you often turn to? And why?

My favorite wines are usually Syrahs and Pinot Noirs.  They are both reds with a good strong flavor.  Whites tend to be sweeter.

Here you go:

I have wineries all around me, so I just go to a few a do a tasting to figure out what I like.  French style wines tend to be sweeter and fruitier, while Italian tend to be dry and spicy.  I've really only been getting into wine in the last couple years, so that's the gist of what I've picked up.

The winery does make a pretty big difference by the way, or rather where they get their grapes.

My wife loves wine but only really only Cabernet Sauvignon so we have to plan our meals around that. I feel like I've said this before, hmm.

As for me, I killed another bottle of tawny port, Graham's 10 year I think it was

I also came home with this, a 'San Diego-style pale ale' from AleSmith Brewing in honor of the late Tony Gwynn ... 'a golden pale ale full of American hop flavor and aroma with a subdued bitterness and a malty sweet finish'. I'm not a pale ale fanatic, but this brew is incredible to taste. 6%, not too shabby. Also a portion of the proceeds go to the Tony and Alicia Gwynn Foundation.

It was my birthday yesterday, so I was invited to a surprise party where we had some beer - I had Westvleteren 8 and 12, Thomas Hardy's Ale from 2003 and some other nice beverages.
