The scenery pics are funky-cool, but the giant squiggly character stat meter GUI kinda ruins it for me.

Agreed, the GUI is awful.

Huh, I like the look of this trucking thing. Aww, truck yeah, racing stripes.

I think of it as a placeholder paint job, one of the cheaper non-solid color ones in the game, until I figure out how to skin the cab and make my Shantae themed skin.

hey, at least a truck can make turns. what's the appeal of sitting in a flippin' train and watching trees go by?

This kind of made me curious if I should try out the Train Simulator 2014 or somesuch. I love trains, especially the heavy industrial ones, but I am not sure if I want to pay 30 Euro for a test.

/Edit: Especially that apparently every addon costs around 30 Euro. Lolwut.

I'm usually loathe to question another gamer's idea of fun*, but what exactly is the appeal of driving around in a virtual truck?

You know it's pretty much like X3, just only with freighters, on Earth instead of space and with no danger of being shot at.

Some gamers like simulations more than stimulations.

Fortune favors the bald.

That was the realization that had gotten me really depressed after hundred+ hours on Freelancer: that I was spending all my time studying to get a "good" and "respectable" job and all my spare time pretending to be a virtual delivery boy.

Unobtrusively informing you about my new ebook (which you should feel free to read and shower with praise).

* Obviously not true

To me the appeal is not murdering.  Outside of sports games, which I'm generally not particularly into, the VAST majority of games are all centered around killing.  I'm burned out on murdering, I've played enough video games based on murdering to fulfill whatever bloodthirsty savage tendencies I may have had inside me a billion times over.  I don't want to murder for a while, I want to play something chill.  This lets me do that.  Also, despite the 2006-esque graphics, watching the countryside roll by as you cruise around while listening to some tunes on the radio is quite pretty and relaxing.

Yes, I have a huge list of point and click adventure games to play through for non-violent enjoyment.

Murder simulations more and more seem like the "easy way out" for the gaming industry. You do not need to come up with anything actually interesting if you just let people shoot stuff. So I really enjoy it everytime someone makes a game that lets you do something that isn't just adrenaline through virtual combat situations.

Then again... I am currently shooting robot-fishies that try to stop my milk mining operations...

I'm currently waiting on Moebius and for Cognition to work some of its bugs out for my pointing and clicking enjoyment.  Now, both of those games are based around murder, but at least you're attempting to stop the murdering in those games, rather than partaking in the murdering.  Also, whenever Broken Age comes out, there will be that.

I'll let you know how Contrast works out when that comes out soon.

Not to derail this thread any further (okay, I will), but what is this Contrast you speak of?
