Hello everyone,

So i got hunger for some rpg when waiting for P:E. And then I realise I actualy never complete any campaign in NWN 2. And before I start I would like to hear some suggestion on how to play it. Are there some good mods which are not overpowered? For example ranger is my favorite class but he quite suck in original NWN2 as far as I remember (but i didnt complete game because some bug). Also what party you recommend for SoZ? I remember that I die quite quickly in SoZ. Any tips or hints are welcome.

peace

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

I played a paladin first tim an had no problem. I felt that changing Khelgar to monk was a silly thing to do. I think that is when Casavir replaced him in my party. (why do I remember names?)

My playstyle though always has been a couple of strong melees to keep the enemy occupied, a rogue to stab them (the enemy) in the back and spellcasters as support. So two paladins a rogue and a druid worked great for me.

Unobtrusively informing you about my new ebook (which you should feel free to read and shower with praise).

Spellcasters are very powerful at higher levels, but I don't remember how far I got my sorc in the OC. in MOTB my sorc owned. but powerful melee chars are just as important (at least to act as damage sponges, and for times when you need to hit something hard with your +3 sword, like a vampire or something)

the thing with SoZ is you don't need any cool chars in the beginning, so I went with 2 fighters, a dwarven cleric and a sorc for crowd control. at lv 4 I switched one fighter to rogue (then got 2 levels in assassin for his feats and went back to rogue), the other fighter went barbarian for 2 levels after which I made him a berserker. party is lvl 12 currently, and most encounters pose no threat

oh, and so far I haven't had any real use for my rogue except for sneak attacks. in the very first town you get to recruit a ranger, which has very high survival/hide/move silently/search. and for opening locks/triggering traps I use my barbarian and summons respectively

OK can you guys suggest how can I improve my party for SoZ or on what feats focus?

1. Human/wood elf ranger/rouge - party overland map leader

2. Air Genasi favoured soul/stormlord - party divine caster/fighter

3. Human mage/Sorcerrer? - I dont know about this but I would like to have party spokemen and main mage in one person? any suggestion on prestige classes?

4. Earth Genasi Fighter/barbarian? - any good tips on solid tank build for my party? I know that Dwarven defender is probably best but I dont like dwarfs :)

actually, I've found my gray dwarf to be an amazing tank, he has all kinds of immunity to different effects like poison (which will be handy against Yuan-Ti). and +2 to constitution doesn't hurt either (went with cleric and made him a Warpriest later for his cool auras)

my secondary tank is a fighter/barbarian half-orc. he has a ton of HP and hits like a truck, but since he doesn't have a shield, his AC is a bit low, so high attack enemies can give him a beating.

Dwarven Defender does look like a good tank, but I could never meet the requirements to take it, so I have no experience with it

and like I said, no need to make one character with overland map navigation in mind, since you will get a ranger very soon (also, if you then take Leadership with any of your characters on level-up, you can get a sixth party member) with high stats in survival etc. who's perfect for that. concentrate on your long-term goals instead (like crafting, if you're into that, your future prestige classes etc.)

Some fighter type with Divine Champion prestige makes for an excellent tank. Sacred defence gives +5 to all saves by 10th level.

Melee characters are excellent in both NWN2 OC and MotB, there's plenty of crafting options to make insanely powerful weapons.

(and I seem to recall the same was true for SoZ, but don't remember for sure)

SoZ has a readily available nifty Druid companion with Raptor animal companion. Also at least a ranger, but I always took the druid.

SoZ is great in that everybody gets to butt in in conversations, so you don't necessarily need a dedicated party leader,

actually "the leader" mostly needs ranger skills, outdoorsman (or whatever it was), search, spot, hide and stuff like that.

Sorcerer makes for a real nice spokesman, but there's a thing in that you almost completely need crafting skills and specific spells

to make sweet items. So going with sorcerer either means limiting crafting, limiting combat effectiveness or planning ahead.

If you want to get the best out of NWN2 and MOTB, play Rogue with good Diplomacy, Bluff, and Intimidate. Like any other Obsidian games, it's very dialogue heavy, and have lots of great dialogues hidden with skill and influence checks.

Your game will be harder as well, to add the challenge.

Thanks exo, I will keep it in mind, but right now I am going through SoZ so it will take time when I will return to OC or MoTB

progress update - I got few levels and complete all goblin quests. So far most ass kicking is my fighterm but what troubles me that he got hit a lot even with AC25. I skipped Favoured soul as I was not sure if I need cha or wis and take druid instead. My mage is pretty decent as well, I am now thinking if go for red wizard or candlkeep guy. Also any hints how to progress ranger/rouge? its now 3/3 and seems decent I give him archery style.

Thanks for all tips guys

Wow it was a while back but I remember having a Barbarian / Rogue / assassin and one of those Storm-Lord prestige class dudes in my party, as well as a vanilla sorcerer and a grey-orc fighter cleric. We panzered our way through it with lots of fun.

^ Yeah loads of abilities stack, the d12 hit dice is good and you can score sneak attacks with comedy 2-H weapons. As an assassin with 20 STR I was poison sneak attacking with dual greatswords, it was like some total badassery from the Scorpion King. Which, of course, is what decent fantasy CRPGs *should* feel like, not humourless LARP simulators.
