So went and started a 4th character in BL2, a gunzerker. He's fun. More than others.  Now i just need powerful guns ... or at least lots of money to tip Moxxi to get both Good and Bad Touch. I probably could finish the game with those two guns. j/k

Today I have started playing Saints Row 3. Very light hearted and overdone but fun nonetheless. I am thinking of also playing Fallout 1, as I never played it before. Do you guys think it makes sense to play 2 games more or less at the same time, or do you think your experience gets diluted this way?

Don't worry. Once you start Fallout, you'll play it until you reach the end.

Thats what I am thinking :)

X3: Terran Conflict - Hopped out of my transport and into my Terran Rapier scout and took the somewhat long journey through some inhospitable sectors (though I could have gone a different, slightly longer, more hospitable route) to get to Duke's Citadel on the edge of Paranid space.  The good thing about a scout is that even flying through dangerous sectors, like Xenon sectors, is relatively safe as long as you keep them engines burning bright, since you can just outrun anyone that's a threat.  Anyway, the trip was all types of worth it because at the edge of that sector was a Paranid Advanced Perseus M3 heavy fighter sitting there, just waiting for a new owner.  Now the Advanced Perseus is ugly as sin, simply one of the ugliest ships in the game, but it's also one of the better heavy fighters in the game.  It's very fast, maneuverable, well shielded, and well armed.  Heck, the one I found wasn't even completely wrecked, like so many abandoned ships.  The hull was completely intact and it even came with a pair of PBEs (Pulse Beam Emitters).  PBEs definitely have their uses.  While they have a very short range, and they do very little hull damage, they have a super fast rate of fire, fast moving blasts, and do MASSIVE shield damage.  This makes them perfect for taking out pesky M5 scouts, and for capturing ships.  So far I added 1 PAC (Particle Accelerator Cannon), a decent damage, high rate of fire, somewhat limited range weapon, and 2 HEPTs (High Energy Plasma Throwers) which have long range, and do massive damage, but have a slow rate of fire and not particularly fast moving blasts.  This gives me enough armament to take on basically any fighter with confidence, but if I want to have any chance against a corvette, I'll need to scoop up a couple more HEPTs, not to mention some missiles.

Anyway, I can go ahead and do my escort mission now as the Advanced Perseus is more than capable enough to thwart off anything I'm liable to run into during the mission.

Are you playing standard or with mods?

Vanilla.  Are there any mods you want to recommend?  I thought about playing with X-Tended again, but I did that last time.

Keyrock is slowly brainwashing me into buying X3.

Steam offers a couple of different packages that include DLC (Reunion, Albion Prelude), can you recommend or discourage anything about those?

All the X3 games are basically the same but with some tweaks here and there, and they're all standalone, except Albion Prelude, which requires Terran Conflict.  Reunion was the first.  Terran Conflict is basically Reunion with much of the stuff from the X-Tended Mod (for Reunion) and some other tweaks.  Albion Prelude has some more tweaks and some added ships on top of that.  Each one has a story, but the stories are mostly throw away.  I'd go with Terran Conflict or Albion Prelude, as in Reunion you have to play through the campaign to unlock the Terran sectors, while in TC and AP they're unlocked from the start, not to mention there are more of them.  Either way, it's mostly the same game.  If you really want to do the stories, you can buy the X Superbox which includes all the X games.  Whatever you choose, they're occasionally super cheap during Steam sales.

Edit:  Oops, Albion Prelude requires Terran Conflict, changed above text for correction.  My bad.

More specifically, grab the HD version if you want to play MP against other people on Steam, or, I suppose, if you want the Steam Workshop integration. Otherwise pick up the UserPatch which is, if anything, more polished than the official HD version.

And even if you decide HD is for you, be aware that the multiplayer portion of it is the most problematic at the moment, particularly with regards to lag.

EDIT: Not sure about the audio problem, modern drives should be able to send redbook audio fine through digitally - that's why the additional cable was removed, after all. (You can play regular music CDs right?) You might want to double check that the "enable digital CD audio" setting is on, depending on OS.

I don't completely understand the problem, but I was under the impression that the reason it didn't work is because it was missing that additional cable. The game doesn't seem to know how to use the audio from the CD like it did for CD drives. Nor have I ever met someone who got around the problem, short of simply ripping the audio data and manually playing it...which is what I ended up doing.   :)

Wasn't able to check myself, but remembered to ask my sister who has my original CD - she gets music just fine with the UserPatch installed. Win7, fairly standard hardware and definitely no analogue CD audio cable.

On the other hand, I've just re-installed the newest release of the patch and at the installation menu you can manually add music tracks to the game.

Depends on your goals for this playthrough. Are you going legit trader, Mogul, police/BH?

I like to use the X3 Rebalance Mod , however that requires a fresh start, so that's out, but one to remember for next time.

Bounce mod, if you intend to use AI to control other ships you own.

Commercial Agent

MK3 Improvement Reloaded

Mobile Mining Mk2 (MM Mk2) v1.05 [TC][AP][sCR]

That's a few that I use when doing a trader playthrough.

Don't forget the X3TC Bonus Pack available from the egosoft website.

Cool, thanks.  Setting up a giant merchant empire with many factories and transports is basically my bag.  Though, I do like to amuse myself by leading a massive fleet into a Xenon sector and doing a massive scale battle also.  Obviously I won't be doing that until much later, when I have the resources and reputation to assemble such a fleet.

Finished the original BioShock.  Definitely preferred Infinite to it.  I liked the story more, even with the crazy last hour.

Bioshock infinite was a mediocre shooter wrapped up in better than average (but still not OMG WOWZERS) packaging.  a big let down imo.  dishonored is a vastly superior game in every way

I have never seen so much pretentious hogwash written about a computer game (games journalists = contradiction in terms) as I have about Bioshock Infinite. According to the online hivemind it was like John Paul Satre meets The Seven Samurai. I watched a live feed and it looks like a very average steampunk-ish FPS.

Well who do you trust more, the journalists or your eyes?

И погибе Српски кнез Лазаре,
И његова сва изгибе војска,
Седамдесет и седам иљада;
Све је свето и честито било
И миломе Богу приступачно.

After working in a press office, I'd say never trust a journalist ;)

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

How do you feel about X3:TC?

I spent countless bajoolion hours in X2 and consider it one of the most fab games ever, but still have never got around to either X3 or X3:TC though I have both floating around somewhere.

Read the manuals though!

The only thing about the X series that I remember is that they had a canned benchmark out of their engine back in, oh, 1998 I think (before the release of the game itself), which may have been the first 3D-accelerated program I ever ran (on my nVidia Riva128, which was a terrible product).

I was attempting to try out Age of Conan, but I somehow ended up with an US account and it does seem like customer service doesn't work on weekends. :(

EDIT: managed to create a new EU account linked to my other one, already about to dump the game though, 3 crashes so far and I'm not even in the game world yet. Talking about a bad start.

I love it.  It's not that different compared to X2, though it's been a really long time since I played X2, so my memory may not be perfect.  Basically with X3 you get purdier graphics, more sectors, more ships in more categories, the ability to multiplex factories (I think that was introduced in X3, though it might have been in X2 also) and some tweaks and rebalances.  So people like the balancing they did for X3 (and they rebalanced again and again from Reunion to Terran Conflict to Albion Prelude), some don't, but there are balance mods out there anyway.    ;)
