About to start AP

Hi All

I have read some of the positive reviews around AP, last week I downloaded it from Steam and will be playing it this week. I just wanted to say hi to the AP community. I'll post my comments around the game as I progress :)

Looking forward to your comments.

As "Anakin covered by a Bedsheet with eyes cut in it" alluded, balancing was not one of the game's strong points :) But try to play it the way you feel. I have done three playthroughs, so if you don't hate it, you'll probably like it enough to play it twice. Opinions seem to be rather either or on the game.

Unobtrusively informing you about my new ebook (which you should feel free to read and shower with praise).

The main problem people gave grief over was the hacking mini-game, but there's so much to enjoy that you can't let that potentially spoil things.. ;)

For the hacking...

Don't search for what you need to find. Instead, find the one block that doesn't "move"... that's your target.

Using that hacking is as easy as it can be. Not sure why so many people have problems with it (they probably try the much harder route of actually checking for the block and ignoring movement and non-movement?)

I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created. At least top 5.

Even with that, moving the block with the keyboard is painful as hell; I never have problems +finding+ the passwords, I have problems selecting them!

Use the mouse?

The cursor and block will be disconnected, but that's not really an issue (aside from possibly distracting you), it just looks silly.

I'm getting ready to do another playthrough after not having played the game for well over a year. I definitely want to heavily invest in CQC this time around. What would be the best weapon skill to complement CQC?

Edit: Maybe I should just forget about guns altogether and just max out CQC, Stealth, and Tech, then just kill everybody with my hands? (because that's way more badass than putting bullets in people)

I went CQC and pistol so I could use tranq darts in a few situations were CQC just wasn't enough.

There is a mission in Rome, when you get rushed in the ruins that can be a pain with CQC alone. The Marburg fight in the museum too.

Obviously you'll have to use a rocket launcher for helicopters and apcs and a sniper rifle for you know who in the end.

I decided that I'll get at least some Assault Rifle for long range and use CQC for everything else. Hopefully Fury & Toughness will get me through when **** hits the fan. I want to try to get through the game this time without the God Skill (Chain Shot).

Hacking minigame is done most efficiently on the PC if you use keyboard for the left and mouse for the right. After a while, it gets pretty intuitive, though you need to move everything in a 'blocky' fashion (i.e. you're not gliding the cursor over to the selection, you're sort of pointing in the right direction then letting the cursor move block by block). I think it's a lot tougher to get used to if you haven't played older click-to-move titles, or other things like that.

AP isn't that difficult and playing without chain shot does open up different experiences. After one playthrough ghosting or chainshotting, it's quite liberating to go gung ho with assault rifle and drop explosives everywhere.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the tips. Okay I need some input. I admit I am not very good at these types of games, or rather I take time to get use to them. A couple of points

  • I am now comfortable with hacking and other mini-games
  • I am battling to use my grenades effectively. I am confused by what is the quickest way to activate them? I normally select them from the Inventory but it doesn't always seem to select the right grenade when I need it. I also found that using the C keyboard option brings up the Grenade screen but that then vanishes so I have to use Inventory to select. This is obviously a slower option.
  • I noticed in the Safe House I bought loads of ammo for my pistol and assault rifle but when my second mission started I didn't have the amount of ammo I bought? Is there a limit you can have on a mission. I bought loads of ammo because on the first mission I ran out of ammo
  • Finally I understand that this is a stealth game but is it wrong to just "shoot your way through the missions"

I am enjoying the game thoroughly and it makes a nice change from my true love of gaming, fantasy RPG :)

There are a couple of missions where it's best not to just blast through the missions (especially the ones that suggest not killing "innocents"), but I can't recall it actually being punished severely.

Hi Guys

Okay I am really into this game now. Its great fun, I still haven't mastered the art of Grenades but my combat strategy is effective enough where I don't have to use grenades. What I do now is generally try to avoid blasting my way through unless I have no option. I use the silent kill to avoid attention. How long did the game take you to complete. I am enjoying it and want to take my time?

Can't remember how long a playthrough took me. Though as I loved the game I wouldn't have minded it being a lot longer ;)

Each of the three hubs is aboput equal in length though, if that helps.

How far did you get?

Very early days, I have just finished Saudi Arabia and I am now in Rome :)

I seem to travel between hubs. At least if I want an as stealthy as possible run.

Talk to Heck in Taipei and do the first triad mission. Go to Moscow, talk to Grigori and do the train yard. Do the NSA listening post in Rome. Return to Taipei and do the warehouse while being good at stealth. Finish Taipei, finish Moscow then do Rome.

That's my "best" order of doing stuff so far.
