4 Mil Stretch Goal Hit, Hire Malukah?

Recommended Posts

I know it's not rational at all, but I'm SO SICK of this girl's singing. EVERY SINGLE fan video for Skyrim had that godawful cover of hers for music background, it put me off Skyrim entirely.

Yeah, she sings ok, but it's too theatrical and affected and I've heard it way too many times.

Am I the only one feeling a bit uneasy about Youtube "sensations" that became popular when they put on a Zelda costume, or a tacky "medieval armour" bought in a toystore?

All those violinists posing heroically and dancing wildly in meadows and around seaside cliffs?

Could they possible suck on the poor internet nerd population any more? We need more maille bikini, more Zelda hats! Nerd porn! Oh, she plays guitar, whoopty friggin' do.

That said, I do think Laura Intravia is awesome.

Hey, I said I was irrational! ;)

Please no. No thank you. She's a great singer and all, but please for the love of Odin above don't include her wailing in project eternity.

I have got enough of that overly mixed wailing with massive echo too. Can't stand it anymore. It's so cheesy and sugary I'll probably throw up if I have to hear it one more time.

They must have used different recording equipment or something, because the latest one she did, the Guild Wars 2 one, there is no echo at all. And it sounds quite different to me.

I really liked this recent collab for Guild wars 2. I thought her voice sounded alot, warmer, than other songs.

You are absolutely right. They should hire Asja. You know, the one who sang the original song which was INFINITELY better than Malukah's cover?

I'm sick of Malukah. She's everywhere, but she's not even that great a singer. I liked The Dragonborn Comes, but not the rest of her covers. Age of Aggression was particularly awful because this song needs passion and her rendition was too mellow.

I don't want her in Project Eternity, if they hired her I'd do whatever was necessary to remove her voice from the game. There are so many less controversial artists out there, why not choose one of them?

No. Please no. I liked her Skyrim covers but that does not mean I want her elsewhere. Honestly the calls for this actor or that singer is a bit much. Will Claudia Black really enrich your playing experience? Will you really notice the difference if its Malukah or some other singer singing? The obsession with celebrities in recent games actually has put me off then.

How about Herve?Maybe all love intrests should be modeled after him so we satisfy both the 'romance crowd' and the 'let's take revenge upon the romance crowd' at once.

Now this is a true win-win!

After my realization that White March has the same XP reward problem, I don't even have the drive to launch game anymore because I hated so much reaching Twin Elms with a level cap in vanilla PoE that I don't wish to relive that experience.

"I think Obsidian and Bethesda have a good relationship"

Oh, really...

Totally.

What people far too often seem to forget is there are actually people behind names and logos of those corporations. You just can't say Bethesda and Obsidian have good/bad relationship like you can't say Finland and Russia have good/bad relations, even though lots of politicians and media use that phrase even though it's something absurd and non-existent.

Obsidian might (just might) have some disagreement with publishing side of Bethesda Softworks, because of their lost bonuses for New Vegas, but I doubt they have any problems with Todd Howard and whole game developing side. They are professionals and can handle these kind of things. Contract is a contract and they agreed to it's terms, knew the risks and in this particular case those risks unfortunately became reality. EDIT: There is no reason to be angry at Bethesda.

So they hit the 4 million mark, which means we're getting live orchestal music with what I am sure is going to be an awesome game that I am very pumped for. In all honesty, the only other game I've been more pumped for is Skyrim. I think Obsidian and Bethesda have a good relationship so I don't feel bad mentioning a competitor.

Speaking of Skyrim, remember Malukah? She put out a great . . no . . amazing cover of "Dragonborn Comes". Remember how much the internet flipped over that? They loved it.

Would it not be great for not only Malulah, whose voice I think it at the very least if I'm being pessimistic is good enough to warrant appearing in a game, but also publicity for Obsidian, if they hired her to do some sort of work for Project Eternity? I'm not impling it needs to be a fully companion character (though I wouldn't be opposed to it, depending on her acting skills) but even if they had her sing to a single track the internet would spread that word around and bring even more popularity to Project Eternity, and Maluka would benefit from the exposure.

To me, it's a win\win. What do you think?

Awesome thread. I am enjoying all of the suggestions. I always love game music but never followed the actual artist so its a great surprise to see how many other games they have done.

Please don't even make Obsidian consider a 'YouTube talent' such as Malukah. Or Lindsey Stirling, for that matter. The one and only reason these people got popular is because they made covers of songs of something very popular at the time. Oh, and because they're girls and look good.

Also, I personally do not really like to hear English vocals in a fantasy RPG. I always love hearing a fantasy language (or latin, ancient greek) since this increases the feeling of an unknown fantasy world.

way to discredit their talent. If you listen to just Lindsey Sterling play and not watch the video, you should be able to at least recognize she can play, and well at that. If they played something popular at the time to launch their careers then they merely marketed their selves really well in order to gather a large fan base. Props to anyone who is able to have success with something they enjoy

Basically what we're learning form this thread is that people have a strong aversion to everything that's popular. Nothing new here in the world of elitism.

That's because they are not so special. They are just good looking girls who covered some game music, which then made nerds go crazy about them. OMG GAMERRR GURRLLZZZ!! There are much more talented people out there who have something more to show for themselves than 100,000 YouTube subscribers.

I am always sceptical when people want some artist they like, to be making the music for whatever game/movie. I must say that the two first artists linked in this thread were very good. None of the links show any original work though, so people must check the artists out further to see if they can make music, not just play other peoples music. Any of you fans have any links to good original works of the artists you have presented?

I am not talking of the band of course, I wasn't impressed at all at neither the music nor the vocals of the band, whatever they were called.

no idea what the OP is talking about (or rather "who"). but if there's one thing that can ruin good music it's human voice. notice how it's only used in opera where it's the main element. without going into details, I'd much rather have to listen only to instruments

I have not said I dislike either one of them - or anything popular, for that matter. I have also enjoyed Lindsey Stirling's songs and sometimes still listen to it. With and without video. But I consider it to be entertaining - not beautiful, not talented. Concerning Malukah, however... I do not like her singing - at all. I find it to be very bland.

I simply do not think either one of them is suitable for a fantasy cRPG. Of course, a 'YouTube talent' is welcomed by me if he or she is truly talented. Not just because he or she has ties with a (fantasy) game.
