Hello there my name is Lars, I'm a huge fan of the old RPG games from Infinity/Black Isle, and I'm really looking forward to watching this one come alive.

I would love to inspire Obsidian with some off my own ideas, and I know I'm not the only one!

One of the biggest hinderance discussing this on a forum is that on forums , people like to argue, or rather to right someone they believe to be wrong without even trying to see it from their point of view. Also there is the barrier of language, if you read a forum post and it's filled with bad english grammar, and a few sentences that just doesn't make sence, you are most likely to disregard it, or atleast you won't take it very seriously. This is where we fall short from a producers draft board, where we excell is at giving a lot of input because we are many, right or wrong.

What I would really love to see in this thread though is a bit less critisism as to why it would not work, and rather why it would, help spin some ideas if you can.. We play around and design the idea, the mechanics see what can be actually made or not.

So what I want to do here is to make a thread where all can post their ideas within a short template, this could be:

Things you would like to see in game

As the title says, you could also refer to games where you had some encounters that you really liked.

Seal the Deal

As with a pair of windshield whipers, if you know the quality of the rubber is good, and the price is right, you are buying it. Since with a a game it's a little bit different, what do you require/want of the game to help ensure you buy it?

Examples:

I want to be able to relax on the sofa and play it on my tv

If the critics give it more then 85% I'm gonna buy it

I want multiplayer

I want MODS

A good demo

Cool music

PS. This thread might die young, or grow a long beard. in either case I'm thinking instead of "Quoting" huge walls of text you can simply type: @Haawkings (page 1), that way it will be easier to read through.

Like if you like the users idea :) And let me know if think we should add more to the template. Ciao!

I'll go furrst :D

Things I would like to see in game

1. For some reason I have always wanted to feel like I'm making an inpact on a city, visionaly, and encounter wise. If the city is getting attacked I have even gone so far as to try pickpocket guards and changing their weapons and armor too see if I could make an impossible encounter might work. This never works though.

2. Town economy, I never really get the feeling the vendors are selling anything apart from selling YOU some upgrades, or buying all your junk. Think it would be a lot more fun if you could actually see the citizens also buy some of the stuff you sell. Like guards upgrading their armors, a craftsman displaying more jewelry in his window after you sell your gems to him or another vendor, etc. A town you can believe in, with all it's twists and spurs

3. Secret stuff, with a few clues, burried treasure with a little side story to it. This is awesome in rpg's, makes your blood pump :D

4. To be able to free roam with alot of enounters in it you need to stay clear off, feels great when you come back later after some lvls and kill it :)

5. Short side games within the game I think is cool, could be pig racing, dices, cards.

Seal the Deal

In terms of making me buy the product, I'm buying this pretty much no matter what unless I hear It's a big flop. Price should not exceed 80 Dollars though.

I've had enough of saving the day. Sometimes I want to blow the day up, like in Fallout 3 with the bomb in the village. And maybe my decision to do something like that isn't just a mwuahahhahaha I'm evil sort of decision, but a really tough call.

So interesting moral choices that lead to some bad **** occurring please. I know Obz can do that.

If you mess it up though and place a bad call, do you load game or do you play with the consequences?

Take it on the chin. I don't want to spoil the replay where I might make a different decision.

Here is my idea:

Since many people on this forum either love or hate romances, I came-up with a feature that should please both sides: anti-romances. In AP if you was able to piss Marburg enough you could kill him during the meeting in Rome. The anti-romances would work similarly. At some points during the game you meat a certain powerful assassin who manages to escape after you defeat him but come back more powerful. By completing tasks during his attacks (defeating him quickly enough for example), or by completing quests related to him, or by choosing correct dialogue options you gather hate points. If you don't manage to get enough he just gives up the chase, but if you get enough of them he returns again. After the battle you can chase him to his hideout and kill him for some great items and xp.

Hmm... how about:

  • More movement options (climb, swim, ride, levitate, pass through walls).
  • Dynamic auctions for high end magic items.
  • A non-linear ship-based adventure where you can travel from port to port, raid part of the coast, hunt for pirates and escort merchants (or hunt for merchants and escort pirates, as you will).
  • Gritty, grimey locales like those featured in Copper or Deadwood, but with a medieval look.
  • Real environmental effects. Raging fires that sweep through a city; storms that make archery impossible and chill to the bone; thick morning fog; thick cloying mud after a rain, &c.
  • A secret society that hunts down and slays rogue wizards.
  • True-to-folklore fey with a Seelie and Unseelie court. Elves that really are supernatural beings; gnomes that are earth elementals rather than short dwarfs, &c.
  • Changing terrain, including seasonal effects, piles of goods that change from day to day, collapsing buildings, areas that become haunted because of something you did, &c.
  • Plausible villains.
  • A detailed (but not too detailed) system of weapons and armor.
  • An underwater adventure.

Too much? :)
