1.8 million and counting!

If Project Eternity is funded 5 million or more...

  1. 1. What are the designers going to do with five million dollars?

    • Buy a corporate yacht
    • Open a line of theme restaurants and nightclubs
    • Start their own cosplay style clothing line
    • Hire expensive dancers. All the time.
    • Start a cult. Three cults maybe.
    • Spit on Richard Garriott

I cannot believe this is growing so fast. If it gets up to five million or more, do the game designers have the slightest idea what they'll do with the money? What's your guess that they'll do?

I think they should do whatever else they want and spit on Richard Garriot also. Rat Bastard. I do think Obsidz might be a little iffy on that option, though, in an 'inudstry colleagues' sort of way.

They're going to use it to make the game, of course.

I doubt the original kickstarter goal was meant to cover all expenses all the way through the development of the game. There's a reason it's called kickstarter and not kick-100%funder. They're obviously also factoring in Steam sales, but the more money is available early, the better.

I'd rather not be so optimistic.. if it will hit around the same mark as Wasteland 2, it will be a great success. It's still a long way to ho even to 3mln... 5 is rather out of reach, unless you will suddenly see a trend of a significantly increasing daily cash inflow or a spike like the first weekend. For me it looks like decreasing or flat trend at this moment.

3mln - possible.

5mln - highly unlikely.

but if they would make it... that would be alot of cash and I think we could even get more voiceovers and perhaps a full multi support like NWN had.

With so many days left to go, I don't think there's anything certain. If the daily numbers dwindled steadily, they're still almost certain to hit 3 million. I think 5 million isn't out of the question. They don't need to hit the highest mark. They just need to put in an excellent showing.

They have tons of free advertising in the form of news exposure. They will have news on all the game review sites. They are going to pull more and more customers through the four weeks they have remaining. I think they'll get five million. They'll have two million shortly. Isn't it already more than halfway to 1.9? Wasn't it 1.8 this morning?

Sorry for throwing numbers at you, but it will be more than 2 million by tomorrow noon and the next day it will be at 2.2 million by that evening. We all know that's true, you know that's true.

Three million isn't a long way, it's an obvious stepping stone, long before these four weeks are up.

here, if you want to compare it with wasteland 2 KS progress and make kangaroo mathematics:

I think they'll hit the 3 million mark comfortably, and could realistically be looking at 4 million+ depending on how much hype the project gets between now and the end date. 5 million might be a little too much to expect, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

also on a related note:

one should not underestimate the power of the "finishing parties" :) b. fargo regrets that they didn't have one for the end of the wasteland 2 KS campaing. for it ended at an awkward time (

).

PE ends at Oct 17, 3:00am CEST(wednesday) hope that obsidian can exploit the last minute pledging frenzy.

Like this option: Spit on Richard Garriott

Not sure, why they would do that though ^^

It has plenty of time still to go, the time of the big investments made by the early adopters have already passed now, the number of contributers will fall slowly, however it will not stop till the end.

So I think it will go above 2.5m to around 3m by the time deadline comes.

It will slow down but it will probably pick up speed again, especially if Obsidian does a battery of web commercials for it and if the game review sites pick up development stories from this project.

According to the Games Credits of "Neverwinter Nights 2" around 120 people took part in developing that game.

A Game Developer should earn around 70k$/year - depending on experience even more. (I am aware that not all 120 people were Programmers)

So let's cut the wages to 50k. (Sorry guys)

We want Project eternity to be just as deep and minimum as big as NWN2, but not as flashy.

So let's water it down to 50 people..... (They just have to work harder...)

The scope of project Eternity is planned to be around 1 1/2 Years until April 2014.

Thats 3.75 Million for wages alone and - in my opinion - overly optimistic.

On top of that comes Office Rent, Voice Acting, Music Recordings, Software Licenses and much much more.

If we really want the game we are talking about to become reality 5 Million would be minimum in my opinion.

A lot of people on Kickstarter pledge low so that they can follow a project, get emails, post comments etc., then they opt for a higher tier in the last 24 hours. Things will flatten off now until that final big surge. I'd expect 3.5-4 million by the end. 5 million sounds too high.

Like Elfwyn says, that may sound a lot, but it really isn't in terms of the game they're planning.

It's not going to be 50 people (Which is/was the size of the South Park team) or anywhere near it. 20-25 is more like it. And not all of these people will be working the entire time on it.

If it doesn't get published by April 2014, we might begin to feel that our donations have been wasted. I'd wait until Winter 2014 but then I'm mild-mannered and sweet. I didn't put forth ten grand. I was tempted to take out a loan but those guys at the shop on the corner only give out payday loans. Why isn't there a Wells Fargo around here?
