  1. 1. Who should compose the music for Project Eternity?

    • Justin Bell (In-house kickstarter video composer)
    • Mark Morgan

    • Other external Composer
    • Whomever Obsidian chooses is fine

References to Tom Waits and Bach? This man Bell has to be hired.

Would like to know what themes of music there will be, there are going to be different lands and cultures so the music can't all be this typical fantasy stuff that all have European roots, is there going to be diversity in the soundtrack or is that too much from digital archives?

So Justin, any chance we can get the sample music from the trailer to listen to? I really like it.

I know you guys want to release the soundtrack and might not be allowed, but we do not get if we do not ask! :)

Update #14 http://soundcloud.co...oject-eternity/

edit: a minute too late...

@ Justin Bell - Very nice compositions, suitably simple and capable of bringing befitting mood right away. What instrument is that magical flute, if I may ask?..

Mocking is completely unnecessary, just isn't my style! Things slip my attention all the time. That said, I'm glad you like it!

YEAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!

hell yeah! :)

Already listened to the tracks 5 or 6 times :)

Glad OE gave the green light on this.

I'll leave another idea in the air...

How about releasing a new theme before the KS is over?

This would be another great wink at the $20 and $25 pledgers to raise their support to the $35 level.

I'm in the I wasn't amazed by the kickstarter campaign music crowd, but I think that doing the soundtrack for the game will really challenge you to produce something great.

First major project, and with current level of passion and dedication is foreboding good results.

Something I posted on the KS update page, thought I'd double post it here. Its sort of relevant! :)

Just wanted quickly jump in to talk about the music we put up for download vs. the actual music for Project Eternity. The pieces on Sound Cloud were tailor made for the Kickstarter launch trailer. There might be some elements from the trailer that'll make it into the actual score, but mostly it was written to support the message of the video. We're really happy to see so many of you enjoy that.

Now for the best indication for how the music will sound, look no further than the main portion of the update (i.e. "Music with Soul" etc). That really spells out our high level vision for the music. It's going to be great, and we can't wait to dig into that and eventually share it with you when the time comes!

You expect him to compose a new theme in just fourteen days? That is asking a bit much is it not?

Not that I would mind if he did. :D

It's a challenge :)

IIRC (but I could be wrong here) Justin composed the KS theme in 4 days.

Justin, your music from the trailer was amazing, really liked it! :)

I think you know Kai Rosenkranzes (former Piranha Bytes) score from Gothic 3? It's without doubt one of the most sophisticated soundtracks ever produced for a PC video game. I hope PE's soundtrack will at least come close to the quality of that masterpiece!

Yeah, I thought the trailer music worked really well. For both aesthetic and financial reasons (in-house already!) Justin should be given the chance. However, that's not to say additional people couldn't be brought on, depending on the amount of music needed to keep the setting fresh. If there's 4 writers and 7 level designers pumping out scads of content--we know what a workhorse Avellone is all by his lonesome--it would be easy for 1 composer to get overwhelmed. I'd say it would all depend on the amount of content to be scored, who would work well with Justin, the final budget, etc. Mass Effect 1 didn't suffer from having both Wall and Hulick on it, so I don't see why PE would suffer from more than one guy. One thing I don't feel absolutely necessary, especially considering the cost, is full orchestral music. Not that I know all that much about how much full orchestras cost nowadays, but I imagine it's comparatively steep next to the rest of the budget, and furthermore, most orchestral elements can be synthesized pretty well.
