It's announced that their will be five classes. What do you want to see? What do you think they are planning on including?

OMG Disco Bandit! That's what I've been missing from my RPG play and life in general. Maybe a Pirate Florist class as the seventh class for the 1.8 million stretch goal!

Can't wait for Project Eternity!!!!

I'm hoping that when (not if :p) they reach the class stretches, they consider implementing some odder classes. Psionics? Wild Mages? Casters who primarily use curses? Crow control-based warrior? Thrown weapon specialist? Spell-casting thief? Spell-casting warrior? And so on.

I mean, assuming we're sticking with D&D-inspired names for clarity, this is what they'll probably go with:

Fighter

Ranger

Rogue

Sorcerer

Cleric

I'd probably do something more like:

Paladin

Druid

Monk

Psionic

Bard

But that's just because I'm wacky and my ideal character classes don't adapt to tabletop archetypes very well.

Also:

Seal Clubber

Turtle Tamer

Pastamancer

Disco Bandit

Accordian Thief

I haven't earned an entertaining and meaningful signature yet. But I will. Oh yes, I will indeed.

Physical close combat fighting class.

Bard/Rogue class with focus on non-combat skills, stealth and ranged combat.

The rest of the classes should be different kind of magic users, depending on how magic works in the game world.

"Well, overkill is my middle name. And my last name. And all of my other names as well!"

I'd imagine we'll see a warrior, a mage and some form of thief, but I hope the other two are more original.

Bard seems like a direction that could be expanded upon, given that charisma/personality-based classes are often lacking.

LOL looked it up and found KoL. I was not aware of the game but that gives them a place to start when working on those classes. Still don't see why we can't have a Pirate Florist though.... maybe someone donating at the $1000 level can use that as an archetype for their NPC design.

Can't wait for Project Eternity!!!!

I would love to see an alternate interpretation of a Bard, that was less "useless little man prancing around in tights and annoying everyone" and more "Battle Skald singing big songs to buff up his party and frighten his enemies". It'd also be cool if, instead of just selecting songs ala spells, you built songs out of different combinations of chords or themes, and each one had a different effect. Kinda like magic in Ultima Underworld but kind of not.

Some other classes would be runecasters, totem druids, beast trainers, ruler (or some other leader type class with a fancy name that could give a bonus joinable npc slot based on level, and bonuses for leading groups, etc.), and crafter.

"Battle Skald singing big songs to buff up his party and frighten his enemies".

DnD already has this as well. I like it.

As long as they add a Necromancer, that actually feels like a Necromancer (Not some "oh I've got shadow magic" Necro), I will be one happy man. Plus add a bunch more money! Hah.

"WOooooOOOooooOooo!! My fireball is BLACK!"

I liked the idea, as tried in DA:O, of merging the wizard and the cleric classes, and instead adding the options for diversity to be choices within that class. All the greater shame then that for whatever reason, there needed to be two physical fighting classes.

But anyway, my take:

Fighter

Magic-user

Diplomat

Tradesman

Academic

Where's the rogue you might ask? Personally I think the concept of the rogue tends to get split down the middle, the light fighter on one side and the non-fighting sneaky dude on the other. I think that between the fighter and the diplomat, provided enough customisation within each, cover for either archetype.

Three races minimum! As many as 5! There has to be dwarves! ! SEE MY SIG FOR DETAILS WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT OBSIDIAN!

A fantasy RPG without the option to be a Dwarf would be like a seal without someone to club it! OK, that was maybe a bit too much, but Longknife started it!

But seriously, there were no Dwarves in Planescape: Torment... it is time to right that wrong! I will just make one with my Kickstarter reward if I have to

Black as my SOOOOUUUUUL! *black metal plays in background*

Just a side note, I would be especially happy if we had a classless system. Classes are rather restrictive.

Agreed, but we already know that ain't happening, so we may as well roll with the punches.

Wanna share the wealth?

On topic: I love it when Dwarves are right. When they are shallow grunting axe wielding beer drinkers, and thats it, I'm never a fan. But those Dwarves which have a passion for what they believe in, drink beer, and wield axes into the heads of a thousand foes, are incredibly awesome. Also add some spark to them. Like the Warhammer Fantasy Slayer Dwarves were really cool.

Considering Sawyer's mention of peoples souls, and how they are connected to magic, I'd like to see all the class have some sort of magical ability. Maybe the warriors-like class(es) might not be good at it, and there could still be a mage or mystic or whatever class that's good at it, but it kinda sounds like being able to use magic is the first noticable feature that seperates you from joe peasant.

This depends on how classes are implemented. There might be a generic figher class and mage class, but depending on how customizable they are would dictate whether or not other classes like monk or cleric are needed. If a fighter can take unarmed offensive skills and defensive skills that rely on dodges w/ light armor then you have something similar to a monk. If the mage class has different schools of magic and one of them is healing/protection, then you have a cleric. And so on.

Hopefully we'll see this kind of versatility so that even though we only end up with 5 or 6 classes, the combinations become much higher. This could also let the game have more variety in it's classes than the usual staple of classes.

I am a real sucker for hand-to-hand martial arts, so a class that could provide some sort of specialization in said would be great, for me at least.

My gut tells me that it might be a good idea to spread buffing ability around - away from just the pure casters - and just in general make party composition a little more fluid and less rigid.
