I Just saw someone on my friends list doing around 44k damage at level 60. What the hell?

My 52 wiz had 2k dps, then I realised I could buy a level 60 weapon with lower weapon requirements. Result = 7k dps with ~22k crits. So I imagine if you save up half amillion or something, or get some crazy inferno drops...

Something I don't get as much, people are complaining about inferno. My understanding was that Inferno was basically almost impossible, and if you were hardcore, they expected it would literally be months before someone beat it. That infers that people are actually doing BETTER then expected against inferno.

With that in mind, I can't really understand all the people griping about the difficulty of Inferno. If they don't like it why not simply go and farm Hell instead?

Inferno is supposed to be hard. If it seems imbalanced with some classes and another, perhaps instead of making other classes more powerful, they should instead make the more powerful classes less powerful?

It would go with the idea that overall Inferno is supposed to be nigh impossible, so I'm not really understanding all the complaints against it some are posting.

Metacritic is retarded, is my thought.

Act 3 Hell is grindy for my character right now, and don't have the numbers for 4-player mow throughs which might be more productive.

(snip)

I think you have to play the actual game and get to Inferno to understand that. It's not so much because it's "nigh impossible" (it's not impossible, obviously) but more because of the way they make it so, as well as the fact the whole grinding for items thing doesn't work very well as a way to steadily progress. The hunt for loot is nothing like it was in D2. It's a catch-22 - the items that drop in other difficulties are not generally going to be anywhere near good enough to get even past Act1 of Inferno (in terms of Elites). But you can't farm Inferno because you can hardly kill Elites in Inferno. Which leaves you farming gold, either for the Blacksmith/Jeweler (the blacksmith can't learn the really cool stuff unless you find plans, or buy them in later Acts or something, either) or for the AH. And because it's early, most awesome items people keep for themselves. And what there is, you'll need 10's of millions of gold to buy a half set of gear. Have fun gold-farming.

The other thing is that idiotic Enrage aspect to Inferno. What that means is that if you take too long to kill an Elite pack (4-5 minutes I think) they get a buff that essentially instantly heals them back to full and does extreme DoT to anyone within almost the entire screen radius range. Life ball drain in seconds, in other words. This makes it nearly impossible to kill them if you aren't uber-equipped somehow. And to get that equipment....back you are to gold farming and the AH.

You have 50K life. The monsters in late Inferno can often one-hit you for over 100K. So you die over and over and try to chip away at them, the common tactic in this sort of game, but now if you take too long, all that time is wasted because of Enrage. I'm only in Act1 and they aren't quite at the one-hit stage for me. But I'll say this: I don't mind dying a lot, and I don't mind having to grind for gear and such...to a point. But I can tell already that Inferno is going to be more grind than it's likely worth. I can run past almost everything just to try to get to the easier Act bosses to progress in the game that way, but I can't kill 90% of the Elites in Act1 (which are the main source of farming for good items, btw). That's with 70% dmg. reduction, 265ResistAll, 30+ Dodge, life steal, nearly 40K life. Ranged classes have it a bit easier, as usual. I only have about 8000dps and I don't see much way - as a Monk - to get it a lot higher yet. I might squeeze out 9-10K dps if I gave up 15K in life etc and I might try that, but those Elites are still going to whup my arse. I think Resist All is the most important thing in Inferno, outside of being nimble enough to avoid being hit. Better plan on having 500 at least. :p

Am I saying "It's toooo harrrrd?" No. I'm fine with having a difficulty that's insane like that. Some people want/like it, some are probably even good at it, so it should be an option. I was eager to try it. But I think .... in the end...it'll end up being too much grind for me. I'm going to try to run past to get to bosses and maybe "win the game", but in terms of farming gold/gear until I'm so uber I can run through most of Inferno without dying 20-50 times per area and/or without running past most Elites? No thanks. I'll probably move on to other games. :)

This sums it up for me: (note: I know nothing about Dark Souls so I can't say if I'd think his assessment re:that game is ok or not...but it does sum up what I think of D3 overall, in general)

For those wanting to "beat" the game I was thinking Hell was that. Just like the other Diablo games, HELL was the actual real end level. Inferno was added on as gratis for those complaining that Hell was too easy. Inferno on the otherhand was supposed to be cheap kills (computer cheap kills you), unfair, and except for exploits (which is what most are using to get past it overall from what I've heard, such as simply running till you drop) almost unbeatable.

It was never meant to be like Dark Souls difficulty, it was meant more to be like Roulette against a Cheating Casino hard, or if in Hardcore...Russian Roulette with all but one of the chambers with a bullet in them.

That's why they didn't think anyone would beat it without exploits for at least months if I recall the interviews right.

I remember reading that they actually couldn't beat it in house at Blizzard.

Diablo 3's average user rating on Metacritic is 40%. Thoughts?

That's because in the first two, three hours after release metacritic was swarmed with about one and a half thousand people voting 1, before anyone was even able to play it. I saw this happen because I had a preorder at a store that I couldn't pick up until the next day, so I saw these all streaming in the first few hours. This game's metacritic score was essentially doomed from right away. Maybe for good reason, because of the startup trouble due to the always online stuff. But it's not actually a reflection of the quality of the game, I feel.

And I remember reading that they did beat it at a certain point and then doubled the difficult again, just to be sure.

I'm getting the snot kicked out of me at level 44 on Nightmare, second part of Act II. These flaming goblins ('flaming goblin' sounds like a c0cktail) keep burning me alive... damn the barbarian. Guess I need a monk. Tigs has a high level demon hunter who is a one man army, mebbe should level up one of those suckers.

Yeah, concencus is that the Barbarian is the most difficult class right now. Everyone except the Barbarian and the Monk take care of business from a decent distance, and the Monk has the advantage of having decent self healing capabilities.

If they didn't want people running past monsters, they wouldn't give fast run attributes to items and skills and they wouldn't have made the Act bosses 100% easier to defeat in Inferno (which is why running to them works). :p I wouldn't call that an exploit, it's just "cowardly." Heh. Or sneaky, like being a thief type.

The real issue is that it's not actually impossible. You just need to have 50000dps, and even then you're going to die a lot. The problem is that to reach 50000dps you have to gold farm forever and then sit in the AH screen forever, pushing refresh, hoping the items that you want/need will be available and that you'll be able to hit "buy" before someone else does. That's horrendously boring (shopping the AH like that), and is just as much an "exploit" as running past everything, if you want to call the latter an exploit, because it's cowardly and lazy. eg, you didn't earn it yourself.

Yeah...the melee classes in Inferno have it tougher because we have to actually stand in all that arcane laser/fire stuff to do damage. Ranged classes can get away with less resistances and all of that. I'm a pretty good "kiter" but it just gets ridiculous in Inferno, unless you have crazy amounts of dps.

Level 13 Demon Hunter. Those chakram things are the most OP, munchkin powaz ever. I love it.

I started with the toughest class, thinking it might be like the D2 Bbn who was one of the easiest...

Yeah, Im having a much less frustrating time with my in Hell Wizard than my in Hell Monk. I can just stand back and lazer everyones faces off while a Barb or Monk soakes the damage and if things get hairy I can just kite everything by running away and dropping Hydra's in their path until they die. Having a good "tank" is critical to higher difficulty MP. Now if I join a public game and wind up in a group without a melee class I just immediately drop.

I finally finished my playthrough of Nightmare with my barbarian and realize that I need to do a major overhaul with my gear. My dps, nor my armor is up to snuff in my opinion and it sucks to have to think to rely on the auction house a good portion due to poor drops throughout the last two playthroughs, but hey, what can you do.

I also was led to believe hell was the end game difficulty, and inferno was supposed to just be the optional "bonus" difficulty for the super hardcore
