Imagine if you could access every book ever submitted to a library for a minimal fee.

Sounds very "Wikipedia". I like it. Also;

Imagine if you could access every game ever developed for a minimal fee.

Other than the fact that I would die a happy man, I think it would actually reduce piracy, instead of encouraging it.

Mark my words: Accessibility reduces piracy. Ditto for reasonable prices.

I remember the angry postings when some game companies started the one time online activation scheme and how it wasn't fair. Then more companies hopped on the wagon and it has pretty much become the norm for many AAA games. If other companies start to pick up the always online DRM I suspect the reaction to be the same and this DRM will seem much more fair when the next more intrusive DRM comes around. It takes one company to really step out and get the ball rolling -- now we just have to see if more companies follow suit and stick with it. EA did it with Command and Conquer 4 so I'm really intrigued to see if they'll implement it in any other titles too.

One time activation is my personal line. I can't speak for everyone on that, of course.

Blizzard is essentially doing the same thing as well but in a much smaller and more subtle way with the removal of LAN multiplayer support in Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 -- taking a feature that was once available offline and making it online only. Activision also tested something like this out by not including any dedicated servers for Modern Warfare 2 but they have since reversed their stance and will be including them in the next Call of Duty title.

True. Blizzard is a sneaky bunch, if that's the case.

Kudos to Activision for learning from their mistakes, then. I, as a customer, would prefer NOT being their guinea pig, though.

As fas the Witcher is concerned there is a Platinum Edition of The Witcher out in Europe now. It basically is the Enhanced Edition with 1.5 patch in it, no censored content and the fanmade adventures included. As for the first Drakensang, you can try amazon perhaps or any other online vendor that sells retal boxed copies of games.

I have to say that Im working my way more and more to accept one time onlin activation if it means that I can get to play without the disc in the drive.

And if that online activation goes away 12-18 months after the game's initial release. Many people than don't have an internet connetion at home or a very unstable one, can probably go to another place to get the game activated. However, I don't like the idea that have to be always on to play a single

player game. Simply because many people stll don't have fast internet broadband connections - even in the western countries, especially in the rural areas.

As for DRM, let us not forget that the musc and film industry in the 1970's tried to outlaw and ban video machines as well as cassette tapes. They did not see potential for making money this way. The computer-industry sees this potential when it comes to gaming. Many games no also can be bought from Steam, Direct 2 Drive, Gamer's Gate or ther places. And one benefit of all this is that this might actually help a niche game genre such as the adventure game genre to survive.

I checked about 20 shops, which ships to Slovakia for Drakensang, with no luck...

Amazon does not ship games here, for whatever retarded reason...

Witcher EE is already in my possesion ;)

Can't get Drakensang via DD? Gamersgate at least has it if it is an option, though I guess that might count as unacceptable DRM.

I can give you a link to a store in New Zealand selling it retail for roughly 20 Euros if you're really desperate to have it, but it would probably cost about as much to send it from here as to buy it in the first place.

I have not found it on ebay, when i was searching for it... for over a month checking almost every day, then i have just given up (but that was about 2-3 months ago)... i will check again after i finnish my CCNA exams, now i realy do not have time for anything else than studying :sorcerer:

and Online Activation is for me unacceptable DRM, be it gamer's gate or steam, that's why i am still not playing AP aswell :(

You can buy a German version from the publisher DTP on their site. No English version, though, and I don't know who published it in the UK.

But just wait for River of TIme, it's much better than Drakensang 1.

The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

The best DRM that I've have seen is the "release the PC version a week later"

You, sir, are a genius but sadly too clever ever to make it in the games industry. No kidding, that suggestion would kill 50% of the problem stone dead.

I find your comment to be disturbing, since I am trying to get into the industry.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*
