I'm not particularly interested since I'll probably buy the game from a UK site like Play.com or TheHut but here's the news (I assume it was already mentioned but BestBuy/Sega hadn't confirmed?) about the stealth pack pre-order (stolen directly from GameBanshee):

In Obsidian's Alpha Protocol, your number one weapon is choice. And, everyone knows that out on the battlefield, surrounded by enemies with death potentially lurking around every corner, even the best of the best agents are still going to need all the firepower they can get their hands on. Nice logic leap there.

A stealth SMG? What's next, a stealth RPG?

Silenced SMG makes sense, just not in the context of Thorton spreading bullets all over the place.

"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

Stealth assault rifles exist- eg the Russian Vintorez. They generally fire specialised subsonic (ie quiet) ammo and have integrated silencers.

Arguably stealth RPGs have existed too, the British PIAT in WW2 was a quiet anti tank weapon with basically no firing flash, albeit technically it wasn't an actual RPG and was less effective than the genuine RPGs. And several modern systems have two stage launching that obscures where an RPG has been fired from.

I must admit I don't see where's the ugly and dated engine in the screenshots.

Last game I played running on Unreal has been Batman : AA (never finished it though, since my brother sold it before I could :) ) on the X360 and it was only marginally better (mainly better animations and slightly better textures/models for characters).

Though, I admit I never did really read any reviews, so maybe it was panned for its graphics.

My problem with their screenshots is they keep showing the old ones with graphical bugs like missing clips on guns. Seriously, can they take a few new ones?

And while I'm in a complaining mode... where can Aussies get the stealth pack from? :) Got a choice between the assualt pack or some crappy guidebook.

Well the screenshots I posted here aren't old. :)

I don't know about you guys, but the game looks very solid.

Spoiled brats are gonna hate though.

I don't know, I already think we have a decent picture of the game from dev diaries and previews, both the pros (extremely varied gameplay and good cinematic storytelling with a focus on C&C) and the flaws (lackluster enemy AI, animations, etc.).

What I don't understand is the excessive focus on graphics (yeah they're not on Crysis-level, geez, could we please stop talking about them?) and some absurd complaints like Thorton sounding like a jerk or absurd Mass Effect comparison (you see? hacking? MASS EFFECT!).

To be honest though, since I'm essentially a selfish person, as long as the game satisfies me I'm fine.

Well, mere 2 guns don't really cut it for me anyway.

4 guns per pack. 2 free, 2 you can buy later in the game.

edit: Not to mention extra gadgets and specialized ammo, albeit all the gadgets and ammo can be gotten in the game already.

Would you guys say these packs are really worth it?? My local retailer list a preorder bonus weapon pack if you preorder from them but I would prefer to get the game from steam. Steam unfortuantly doesn't list any preorder bonus so I would like to know whether these packs are worth going for one retailer over another.

Wonder if it will be available in Poland...

Doubt it Ausir, for now we have no word on any pre-order bonus in Europe. o:)

Just a word to say that if you are living in the UK or ordering from the UK, you can now see the preorder bonuses that will be given out. Play.com has a Assault Pack whilst both Game and Gamestation has the Stealth Pack. Which they have also included images of: http://www.game.co.uk/Games/Xbox-360/Alpha...tocol/~r334933/

http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-/53203...PG/Product.html

Assault Pack is described as: Includes two exclusive weapons and gives access to an advanced shotgun and rifle as soon as you start the game.

Oops, didn't notice, thanks for the clarification. Though, unfortunately (well, not that much, since I don't care for these pre-order bonuses), it seems they're not available for the PC version.

  • 4 weeks later...

Maybe there are no pre-order bonuses for the PC becasue Obsidian felt like rewarding the dedicated PC gamers out there, and just giving them the exclusive weapons anyway?

No? Ahhh...come on.

More likely there's no bonuses on PC (has this even been confirmed?) because there isn't any DLC planned so there's no mechanism for integrating it. I'd suspect Uniloc pulls the same trick SecuROM did with Bioshock and monitors installed file sizes, one of the things which made Bioshock almost completely unmoddable. If that were the case then the only way to add content is via a full patching process.

Amazon has a pre-order bonus for the pc version.. but technically it doesn't actually provide any in-game issues. It's a 24 page booklet. A "Field Guide" to skills, weapons, equipment etc...

"Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum."
