Matthew Rorie leaving Obsidian?

People coming and leaving on the fly seems to be really a trend at Obsidian. :(

You'd be surprised - turnover at Obsid is actually really, really low compared to what you might expect.

Alas, I've been offered a job up in San Francisco that I could not pass up. I've had an amazing couple of years at Obsidian (for serious), and I'm really looking forward to seeing Alpha Protocol and F:NV hit shelves. In the end, though, I was given an opportunity to return to the city that I love living in, and I get to go back and work with some old friends of mine. It'll be weird, it'll be the first time I've worked outside the games industry since I got out of college, but it should be an interesting challenge. (And I'll finally get to say what I actually think about games for once!)

I'll swing by when we announce what I'm working on next and let you guys know.

Good luck in San Fran and thanks for the AP work. :(

I took this job because I thought you were just a legend. Just a story. A story to scare little kids. But you're the real deal. The demon who dares to challenge God.

So what the hell do you want? Don't seem to me like you're out to make this stinkin' world a better place. Why you gotta kill all my men? Why you gotta kill me?

Nothing personal. It's just revenge.

Thanks for trying to communicate with us, Rorie. Honestly though, doing PR jobs in this business must be the most frustrating job there is. I've had to deal with EA's PR guys face to face here in Sweden and it always ended the same way: inches from punching them in the face.

Good luck on your new endeavors and thanks for the heads-up, funcroc.

Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!

Good Luck, Matthew. You've always been very helpful and informative on the boards. (Especially given the limitations which I know you have to deal with).

It is appreciated.

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

Good luck!

In 7th grade, I teach the students how Chuck Norris took down the Roman Empire, so it is good that you are starting early on this curriculum.

Thanks for the happy thoughts, guys. I'll still be around if I can help it - maybe not with a Developer tag, though.

I don't think I can say much about the new endeavor at the moment, but I think we'll be able to start dropping some hints sometime soon. I'll be sure to drop a link in this thread when the site goes live.

well it's not like this is goodbye since you'll still post here, but good luck in your new job. :)

He *is* losing the all important "Developer" tag (maybe). The Horror!

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man
