Cuba's free health care system now includes gender-reassignment surgery

In brief

While politicians in Washington bicker over how large a present to offer the health insurance industry, Cuba has begun providing gender-reassignment surgery free of cost as part of their universal health care system.

The Cuban Revolution inherited many chauvinistic attitudes and practices from the colonial era, but decriminalized homosexuality in 1979, and has made great strides to advance LGBT rights in recent years. The Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Justice issued new identity papers for transsexuals as early as the 1980

Now it comes with starving transsexuals ready to get in the sex tourism.

Ewww. BTW if we all pitched in maybe we could by LoF a one way ticket to Havanna so he can sigh up. I'm in for $100!

BTW since Cuba is so great it really makes you wonder why Cuban citizens seeking asylum wash up but the dozens on the shores of South Florida every single day. They come clinging to driftwood, innertubes, makeshift rafts, or anything they can float the 90 miles of treacherous, shark infested seas. From what we hear, far more die on the way than make it. It really makes you wonder whay they wpuld leave such a paradise to come to what LoF would tell you is the worst country in the world.

Well those things aside, what the hell is the US doing sanctioning Cuba and not China. Not even the pretense of principle remains. Sanctioning Cuba is simply affordable, while doing it to China is not. 'Engagement' is just a piss poor excuse, after all if it actually worked why not try it on Cuba.

First, that text was from 1973.

But, it is still awesome because of the amount of text dedicated to "Could a person who masturbates be a true Marxist revolutionary?". I'm almost going to put that into my sig.

You would be surprised how little the island changed in these years. While many of these laws became more relaxed they were still enforced from time to time, just to keep a reminder that "they still can" and the ideological enforcement continues even today. Not one word of opposition possible, constant fear of being watched so you watch what you say, and there are some other stigmas that are unique to the island carrying over from those days when these legislation where throughly enforced.

These new movement in favor of homosexual is just misdirection to keep the world from seeing Cuba's steadily declining economy which is heading either towards a reform or a collapse. Basically just imagine Fidel jingling homosexual keys in front of the world to keep them entertained while gets away with anything.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

Indeed. The world has far more to fear from China than Cuba.

I guess everyone is still pissed that Castro accepted our aid and money, then went Commie. Then there was the whole missle crisis. Also the Mariel Boat Lift where he packed all of his criminals and mental hospital patients and sent them our way. Lets not forget that he shoots down private planes over international waters (remember the Hermanos al Rescate incident?). How about his role in Grenada? Then there was his bankrolling Noriega's drug operations, plus his aid to the Columbian drug cartels. Oh yeah, lets not forget him arming Honduran/Angolan/Bolivian/etc communist rebels. Then there was the whole Nicaragua thing. Nah not much bad blood there.

Cool, way to post an article from almost forty years ago regarding a policy that was revoked over thirty years ago. Havana today has a thriving gay scene.

Maybe in backwards world. Here in the real world, Cuba's economy has been steadily recovering since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Here is a little FYI for you: the vast majority of all immigration is due to economic or military-related issues. The United States is richer than Cuba and the DPRK, yes, perhaps you would like to post more facts that are irrelevant to any moral analysis of the character of a country?

And you know this from your extensive time on the island, no? I'm Cuban, lived there for 16 years, by the time I left the economy was suffering and from what I hear from relatives on the island it's worse. If the economy is great then where is that money, in Castro's pocket?

Economic, yes. Could you specify on the military ones? But you forgot to add freedom; as any totalitarian regime every opposition is squashed rapidly before it can make the international news. That is something that the regime is good at, saving face in front of the international community.

Genital mutilation hand in hand with communism. Fitting partnership.

There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Unfortunately, connection is another subject entirely. When one has sufficiently examined the mind and their emotional constructs, connection can be easily imitated. More data must be gleaned and further collated before a sufficient judgment can be reached.

Cool, good to know that your family from Bum****sville, Cuba, managed to not teach their children what the difference between "anecdote" and "data" is.

With military issues, I'm talking about things like ongoing wars, occupations or genocide, where there are large numbers of refuges.

"Freedom" really is an incredibly minor motivator for moving around. If you broaden that to "political issues," then there is a larger subsection, but most people don't really care that much, and if they do, they're quite likely to do anti-government things instead of move away.

My family is from the capital, and like I said none of that money is belongs to the people; the economy and the living conditions of most people greatly differ. And again I say all those fancies are just jingling keys, instead of creating better paying jobs or legalizing beef he gives out pans and cheap phones which are of no real use.

War?Occupation?Genocide? :ermm: What kind of Russian drugs are you on?

The "Freedom" I'm talking about is not having to worry or look over your shoulder every second, or have to put up with being forced to march to every public demonstration or one of a large list of reasons. No; most people wouldn't mind that, or spending a 3 days on holding just because "someone" received information that there was going to be a homosexual manifestation the next day. Even the most die hard communist on Cuba, stutters or holds his tongue once you begin to list the many transgressions committed by the government.

Anyway arguing with you is a moot point, especially when you are discussing it over the Internet and have not experienced any part of this regime.

The answer is clear. they are not running away from Cuba, but like LoF they are desparate to participate in building the socialist revolution in the United States.
