I didn't even know I had those ideas. Thank you, LoF.

"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

Another intersting thread full of new and innovative ideas from LoF. Hasn't rehashing the same ole arguments gotten a little stale yet?

Oh really? When have I appealed to the history of India under Nehru? Oh yes, that'd be never. Therefore, either you're a blatant liar, have serious hallucinations, or didn't even read the thread title. Which one is it?

I'm a blatant liar who hallucinates and I haven't spent much time reading anything you've written lately since it all kinda sounds the same. In fact it all is the same. I don't think you have ever had an original thought.

If you don't care for the message, or the poster, voice your skepticism in a constructive manner or simply steer clear of the thread.

Some of the southern states have elected local socialist/marxist leaders recently - especially Kerala had several mayors from socialist parties...

Would you like to address what happened to India after 1991? Because that would seem pretty relevant here.
IMF neo-colonialist enforcement of market liberalism on an economy weakened by the loss of a major trade partner and changes in oil prices? What does that have to do with the successes/failures of state capitalism with respect to democracy?

Thread pruned a bit. Sorry Jags, while I agree that boobs generally improves the aesthetics of a thread, it just didn't reconcile with Indian forms of government. Unfortunately...

There is nothing wrong with socialistic democracies because they are still democracies. It is when they change from democracies to dictatorships, like Venezuela, or outright totalitarian and brutal, like China, or an oppressive theocracy pretending to be a democracy, like Iran, that I have a problem.

Socialism and Capitalism are economic models, not forms of government.

Venezuela is not a dictatorship. Iran doesn't have a socialist economy. Why do you keep posting when it's clear you don't know anything?

"Socialist democracy" isn't very descriptive. "True" socialism requires of totalitarianism to even get started. Please refer to the umpteen previous threads on this topic for a more detailed explanation.

like Venezuela
I don't know where you are getting your facts, but if Venezuela is a dictatorship (very debatable), it's only because democracy has failed. Countries don't just "turn" into dictatorships, there is always significant popular support for them. And if those who have the ability to prevent it from happening refuse to do so...

And, at any rate, modern dictatorships don't really have a political color - their only allegiance is to power and their only goal is self-perpetuation.

Hmm, yes, except the opposite of the thing you just said. Was India under Nehru not socialist? Was it not a democracy? Please explain your views on why.

It may nominally and organically be a democracy, but low participation and illiteracy cast doubt over the real legitimacy of the "democracy".

As for Nehru's socialist policies, they were quite mild compared to their Soviet or Chinese counterparts. As far as I know (and admittedly it's not much), there was no abolishing private property, mass collectivisations or forced population relocations, etc. Which is what allowed it to remain "democratic". Does a merely strong state planning of the economy equal socialism?

I'm gonna stay out of this one... I don't need more headaches... Plus, I don't really know anything about 20th century India, other than Ramanjuan.

In 7th grade, I teach the students how Chuck Norris took down the Roman Empire, so it is good that you are starting early on this curriculum.

Chavez brutally attacks any opposition. He practices rampant censorship on any news media that questions his actions. He will no doubt rig elections to keep himself in power, then, I am betting he is going to stage a war with his neighbors to justify martial law to keep himself in power indefinitely til the "crisis" has passed.

It is going down the road of a dictatorship, lead by Chavez and his idiot masses.
