Using open source makes you a pirate!

There are a number of Linux users on these boards, so I thought this would be interesting.

There's a fantastic little story in the Guardian today that says a US lobby group is trying to get the US government to consider open source as the equivalent to piracy. The International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA), an umbrella group for American publishing, software, film, television and music associations, has asked the US Trade Representative (USTR) to consider countries like Indonesia, Brazil, and India for its 'Special 301 watchlist' because they encourage the use of open source software. A Special 301, according to Guardian's Bobbie Johnson is: 'a report that examines the "adequacy and effectiveness of intellectual property rights" around the planet

Ubuntu sounds a lot more awesome suddenly.

"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

Finnish Ministry of Justice uses OpenOffice exclusively, btw.

Having worked for them, it's probably due to being *really* underbudgeted as opposed to ideological. They also forced me to use IE6, because no other browser had been "approved for Ministry use"... *imagine tactical facepalm picture link here* :shifty:

You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that?
