Dragon Age discussion

having followed nwn and nwn2, am recognizing that any time a new bug pops up sudden like months/years after release, the first advice given to be fixing the problem is to dump all mods and reload game. as such, Gromnir is extreme cautious regarding mods.

I don't care about respeccing so much. I would be willing to install a mod that one of my fellow board monkeys creates, but that's probably it. On the other hand, I think one of the reasons they did the free DLC the way they did was to show how easy it is and train consumers to use it.

I have exactly one mod installed. A nice little thing that lets you chose your party members stats/talents when they first join your party. It doesn't fiddle with specialisations or starting levels, just leaves all points unassigned. In my current thief game, I have Wynne focusing on spirit magic and Morrigan on entropy magic. I actually wanted to focus myself on entropy magic, but I can't be bothered to play the game as a mage again

I'm quite happy to fiddle with mods since 'official DLCs' are buggier than most mods out there anyway, and are liable to break the game. If you're not too fussed with some trial and error and looking under the hood to tweak bits, installing mods can really make each playthrough new.

Of course, some games like NWN series struggled much more compared to, say, Morrowind / Oblivion.

"You have timed out while accessing your online character profile"

I have gotten this message every time I've played DA for over a week. None of my online character info has updated since then. A search of the Bio Social Forums shows that this is a big problem for dozens of people; some have even seen their DLC's and equipment disappear. Nobody, however, seems to have an answer or suggestion. It occurs to me, however, that this started around the time I downloaded the no-helmets and respect mods. Did anyone here have this constant error message, and manage to fix it? Suggestions welcome.

I get that too, no problems related to the expansions though. I can live without looking at my xbox achievements.

The day after I got wardens keep the game splash screen started to sport an ugly appendage in the form of an advertisement for wardens keep

****ing EA, lol.

yeah, it's not a huge deal but the guy in camp with a quest mark over his head really bugs the hell out of me. ...And I can say that the bozo with the quest mark in camp is fairly shameless. Not a big deal, but something that constantly intrudes on my 'immersion.'

I use the starting skill point one you posted here, what else you got that's recommended.

I'm playing as a dwarf and I can't seem to enter orzamar. I don't have the dialouge option about the ancient treaties, just that I was a dwarf and born in orzamar. Tried loading an earlier game byt that did nothing. Is there a special order I have to do this in or is the game just broken ?

Gorgon, I had the same problem. Enable the cheat console (I think its just -enabledeveloperconsole in the shortcut, check google), then use:

~ to open console

"runscript zz_orz_debug" then enter

a dialogue menu will open. use Area Jump to get into Orzammar Entrance -> Hall of Heroes, things will be fine from there and the quests will update properly.

As for mods:

"Circles_Be_Gone" removes the big fat circles beneath everyone, it can be confusing at first but you get used to it quickly. Purely personal preference.

"ReduceStealCooldown" reducces cooldown on Steal to 1.5 seconds, which is useful if you just want to get it over with. I mean, it's not like there are penalties for multiple tries, except getting up a reputation as a thief.

"No_Helmet_Hack" makes helmets invisible in the world, which is great for mages with their idiotic condom hat designs.

"Bombs_Range_Extension" makes bombs throw longer; maybe a bit unbalanced, but I never understood why you could only throw something 0.5m ahead of you.

Uploaded them here as one zip, as they're all tiny.

Some of these may or may not be so happy with patches, though? These should be relatively innocuous, however.

Create a shortcut to daorigins.exe (not the launcher).

Start the game with the -enabledeveloperconsole command-line parameter.

Example: "C:\Games\Dragon Age\bin_ship\daorigins.exe" -enabledeveloperconsole

Then, while playing press ` (tilde) to open the console. You won't actually see it, but the console is running. You can tell because when you start typing, a series of white alphabets and symbols will appear at the top of the screen.

Make sure 'open console' is still set to tilde or whwatever it was by default, and nothing else has been set to tilde.

OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_Grave
