you know dead space, the scary resident evil 4 remake set on the Von Braun... i mean Ishimura?

right well ea now says they plan on making it less scary atmosphere and more story driven action. so i guess now its going to be a remake of resident evil 5 set in Rapture... i mean Sprawl?

meh

I really enjoyed the first one, but the horror aspects were high on my list of stuff that I really liked about it. Doesn't sound like I'll enjoy the sequel nearly as much, but I'm a horror junky, and very few games really cater to that anymore.

the first one was distinctly underrated: nothing truly groundbreaking but it was a great looking game, the gui was a thing of beauty, and who don't like stomping and cutting space zombies?

i'd definitely play a sequel so long as it was made by the folk behind the first one.

I thought the horror, plot and everything not immediately related to the action was pretty incompetently done in the first one. What it did do well was taking Resident Evil 4 gameplay and turning it into something interesting and engaging. So, from where I stand, this looks like, maybe, a good call by EA.

Also, I never could get used to that strange, silent HUD robot walking a little ahead, and on the left of my field of view. Why was he there?

Not much to ruin, to be honest. Dead Space was fun and I still come back to it once in a while but it was no masterpiece.

"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

Wait.

Who called which a what?

10 posts in and I'm already confused. :)

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

I'm pretty sure they already ruined it by releasing the first one.

I agree. I'm sure that if EA tries really hard they can make the sequel worse but it won't be easy. Most likely any change they make will be for the better, even if they'd randomly roll the dice what to do next. Dead Space was one of the worst games I've played in recent years.

I'm going to say maybe people are reading a bit much into the statement. My impression is that they are aiming for variety within the game more than a complete shift of focus.

what am i reading, is that they want to make the game available to the biggest possible audience... i.e. ****tyfy the IP

I thought it got boring rather quickly. The HUD, genius ?, sure if you say so.

You can't really do without interesting characters and Deep Space has none; the hero is your basic 'amnesian' blank slate, one or two humans there who aren't terribly engaging, the rest is more of the same predictable surprise attacks.

The boss fights are better than usual though, it's not entirely about finding out the traditional 'one weak spot'.

Na na  na na  na na  ...

greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER.

That is all.

No surprise. EA ruins anything it touches pretty much.

Bio seems to be doing alright so far.

So was Origin and Bullfrog for 1st two - three years...

Dead space was nothing like RE.

And it's only small details , we'll see what the finished products brings , no need to get upset yet or else you get another Bioshock, where even though things changed especially during the last year, yet people still firmly believed it'll be SS3ish like promised and payed no attention to info that was given.:)

Dead space was nothing like RE.

Other than the third person action gameplay where you take potshots at specific body parts of slowly advancing masses of enemies, I guess you're right.

Really, the ways in which Dead Space's combat is different from RE4 were outright improvements to the gameplay: more interesting and varied weapons, better and more varied enemies, much better boss fights and generally more responsive controls.

I can understand perfectly why people see Dead Space as a bad game. However, what I have trouble getting is why RE4 is almost universally seen as God's gift to gamers, when it's, in many ways, practically the same game as Dead Space.
