to get welfare you need to prove you're actively jobseeking.

Actually thats unemployment compensation you are thinking of. Welfare has no such requirement. But it should.

probably more so because the free education and health care

you have a strange understanding of what "freedom" means. what about those that are actually paying for your freedom? are they as "free" as you when the state is taking their income to pay for it?

I read somewhere from a very wise man once said that those who trade safety for liberty deserves neither.

i don't see how they're any less free. money isn't everything. besides, they don't have to pay for education or health care either. we've got plenty of poor people don't worry >_<

oh my god, you're such a hypocrite. maybe you just don't understand the concept of theft?

and, um, for the record, the definition of freedom does not require that you view money as important, only the person from whom it is being taken. if that weren't true, then what's to stop some arbitrary government ruling from labeling anything else as "not everything," and simply taking it away from you?

??? they pay more for their "free" education and health care than you do.

smiley? that's a good thing? but wait a minute, isn't socialism supposed to get rid of poor people?

what's so funny, lare, is that ideologues such as you always expose your outright ignorance of even the simplest of concepts simply by posting what you believe. you did the same thing in the GW thread and you do it again here. you expose yourself, almost in comedic fashion. do you really walk through life with your head in such a cloud? it is amazing, but true, ignorance must be bliss.

the vast majority of finns want to keep our social security as it is. so i guess i'm not the only one who doesn't think of it as theft?

??? they pay more for their "free" education and health care than you do.

yes, and they also benefit from it a lot. it's a fair trade-off and most people here seem to agree with me.

i don't live in a socialist country. actually the conservatives and the liberals are in charge now, social democrats are the smallest of our three BIG parties. naturally we have lots of smaller parties like the communists, the greens and the racists but they're small enough not to matter much. greens have been getting more and more voters lately though.

we have the highest living standards (at least at the moment, recession might change things) of the world. i dont think you're fit to criticize finland :)

Endemic poverty has been sustained via targeted government action and inaction. Don't try any equivocation bull**** on me; yes, it's possible for someone in very bad conditions to make a good life for themselves in the capitalist system. It is, however, much, much less likely, and since large groups closely conform to statistics...
Boo ****ing hoo. Aye, that brought a tear to me eye, it did.

I think I'm starting to see a pattern in your posts. You simply cannot deal with the fact that the world is fundamentally harsh and unjust. Maybe that's why you get a boner when you go on about all those mad totalitarian state utopies?

Sorry, I'm not buying whatever it is you're selling... your antics are pretty amusing, though.

Of course the world is unjust. Does that mean that you should just act like a **** and piss on the poor? Based on this post, I have to assume that it does.

Right, I see what you mean. Does that mean we should press for world revolution and the instauration of inefficient, murderous and culturally repressive communist regimes only good for self-perpetuation (and even so...)? Based on your posting history, I have to assume it does.

I don't see how anyone would advocate the creation of a communist regime, USSR style, unless they are right bastards (right and not left, geddit??:)), or not very bright.

Careful there, trigger. I seem to remember distinctly someone who thought CO2 had to be directly warmed to have an insulating effect in that discussion, and I'm fairly sure that person wasn't Finnish.

i don't get it, finland is on the top 10 of all ways we use to measure wealth and success, be it education, wealth or corruption, and this guy tells me we've messed up and that our system doesn't work? dunno what he's been smoking.

I've always thought it slight insane that people in Scandinavian countries get welfare for free (i.e. don't have to prove they are job seeking). Unemployment compensation as Guard Dog calls it makes a hell of a lot more sense. But overall I agree with you strongly.

In LoFs case it might be a little of both because I think that is exactly what he wants.

I think the main reason it works in Finland as it does is because they have a small population in comparison to the US. If Finland had the same bloated population and same bloated government it wouldn't as efficient.

That's why we need to have more power for state government and less at the federal level. The states would be able to do things the federal government can only screw up.

The problem with having the State governments having more power is that our country becomes fragmented when it comes to policies even though we suppose to be the same nation. Personally, I think we should break up the United States into smaller countries.

Because a communist regime *has* to be tyrannical and murderous, right? It's not communism otherwise!

You're not making yourself look particularly smart with those broad generalizations.
