Obsidian making Fallout: New Vegas

Recommended Posts

I'd rather see a map three times the size of Fallout 3. And a lot less encounters. The encounters I would like to meet should be terrifying instead of just a pair of randomly spawned Giant Radscorpions for the tenth time. Gangs of raiders, dug-in wastelanders, insane ghouls.. Preferably like the special encounters from the previous Fallouts: scripted events with some thought behind them.

And why do these special encounters need a three time bigger map?

Until procedurally generated content doesnt give me violent feelings of copypasta, I'd say no. Not to mention personal stories and character interaction seem to work better on a smaller scale. Less pointlessness, more meaningful places and things and people.

Mr Iguanabob: I think at least on this regard we can trust Obsidian without a doubt. I'm not sure on the natural path but I don't have many doubts on figter/diplomat/thief/good/evil sides of the game.

Interplay lost the DnD license due to an accaunting error. The Geniuses at the finance department forgot to pay the royalities.

Promethean: He meant that he wanted good quality encounters and locations, in less quantity, taking place at ranges bigger than every 5th step, not another copy pasta fest

Good quality little encounter: The weird quest of sexy underwear that begins in the middle of no where.

Bad quality encounter: Body part decorated, why the hell do you infest this building too? Raider building number 74.

Also why bigger maps? To give the feeling of wastes. Edit: and to leave space for the modders

Same here. I suggested some threads back, that a section of the map [inaccessible], be made to look like endless wasteland, and during Fast travel, if an encounter occurs, it pulls you out of FT and into this endless waste (for a timed encounter that ends after combat ends, when the clock ticks down ~or perhaps with distance traveled or a bit of both).

Im still unsure why it was removed in the first place with Gamble... I mean seriously, what better way to increase game time by 30 minutes to 5 hours with minimal effort? 5 or 10 nps that are hooked to this game or that game. Some basic game or games like dice / dice poker / chess / checkers / card game and voila you have extra content...

Oh my, oh oh... We seriously need

in the game!

The original [GURPS] Gambling skill was to tip the PC off to a rigged game I believe.

(Not reflect your skill in a game of chance). Still... I remember walking my PC into Gizmo's casino with 5 caps, and walking out with 1500. :woot:

~could they use "Crafty" to pick the NPC's [chess] moves ya think?

The reason I want a huge map is because, in addition to being a Las Vegas native, I've spent a lot of time driving in and around all of these locations. I remember driving just over the horizon so I could get a clear view of the Milky way without all the light polution. (Thanks, Luxor. Rat bastards.) Anyhow, having a larger map would give us more variety in the locations. More of a wasteland feel than just Las Vegas/Henderson.

Plus, someone mentioned earlier, but the Church of Latter Day Saints has a tremendous presence in Henderson. Really, both Vegas and Henderson, but I think Henderson politics is still pretty much dominated by Mormons. First of all, I've had a good rapport with all of the Mormons I've met, so I don't think this is a bad thing for the city at any rate. More to the point, apparently Van Buren managed to include some of the different religious aspects in the game. For example, we Catholics have a big presence in Las Vegas and even Henderson. Probably the largest single religious group in the City unless you count all protestants as a single group. I don't want religion to be some sort of overbearing, in your face aspect of the game, but I can see how it could add a little flavor to the game. Some nuance, maybe.

Not to be negative but I don't think current... morality? game standards? mind set? can cope with "any" hint of religious troubles / troubles about religions. Sure Obsidian folks can make a nice quest chain involving such factions but then before you can say hi, some "I am right, you are sinner, evil, devil, public enemy" person will start campaigning about the game. Just remember how the 2 seconds of bare ass in ME caused a hysteria. Not to mention neuter gender alien becoming a homo by the geniuses of media...

Edit: I sometimes think that if old games like JA2, Fallout, XCOM were released in these times they would all get "AO" or "Not even suitable for AO" and be shunned by the media and the loud ones...

Oh, come on now, cronicler, I've been playing the Witcher, where full bodily nudity abounds and sex is a damned mini-game. If we want mature content, then we need to accept that there are knotty social issues to attend it. That's why, in one of the earlier threads, I said the design team should stop imposing their view and put out the best, logical argument for every side. If one side appeals more to emotion, make a compelling emotional argument.

Plus, I don't think we should make religion necessarily prominent, but it is still a major motivator in society. Sure, we can stick to churches of the bomb because they're safe, but I think they could go further in pushing the envelope.

CD project is an unknown and unimportant small fish for the hysteria makers, if you think about it from the view of ratings. Who cares a bunch of barbarians in the east do? Western company doing some realistic world related stuff=ratings. Sure I am probably being too cynical but thats how I feel.

(Btw I got your point before. I am just saying them using Religion near a game with a picture/memory of such blood and gore is not a good idea. Hell they would probably use footage from FO3 like the one in the clip i posted to show gore. You know, Games make teens and children evil and all that typical crap. )

Revenge of the Teddy Bears, hehe :fdevil:

Hey Gizmo, that would have taken at least half a day to accomplish.

Were you so patient or you wanted all that Killian

I just want (for now) a steady stream of info about the new game from the e-mouth of one J.E. Sawyer.

One tidbit every day would be so much fun. Like throwing scraps to ravenous face-eating chimps.

Actually... that's probably why we don't get tidbits.

Probably replaced the pc -human model with the in game teddy bear model. He might have gone for the whole 9 yards and embedded the bear into/onto the Vault Jump Suit too.

I wouldn't mind seeing a more "thorough" weapons repair process (can't think of a better word for it at the moment.)

Example being able to destroy weapons/items into individual parts (scraps) that might be able to be used to repair other weapons/armor.

I don't know if this is already in F3 or not, but I'd like to see a full body gib for when an enemy is critically hit with a rocket in the chest. not just the limbs falling off, but having the entire body and all its limbs explode into bloody chunky vapor.

Yeah I know that request doesn't fit in with the rest of what I want (ie story/characters/dialogue/choice and consequence), but I really got sick of seeing explosions just knock limbs off of people like legos off a lego building.

and no more slow-mo vats

make slow mo only occur on critical hits, or never

Nope. Atm, there is only arms and legs and heads flying around. If you do too much overkill they split in 2 and fly around... (Except energy weapons. They disintegrate on mortal crits)

Yeah, this is done abstractly by the "mashing together" process, but being able to strip down the weapon would make it easier to carry spare part, I guess.

Well It is a very very extrem simplification but it can be acceptable if we were only about about small things like pistols and such. If you are playing A HW guy with PA, It gets stupid as you need to carry 2 or 3 miniguns (1+ spare) on top of the ones you are going to loot. On Armor side you also need 2 sets. well more than 2 sets if you are battling mutants as they don't drop PA. It just becomes wrong. Sure no weight ammo but now I have to carry useless spare ammo and weapons to fix my own after every fight or 2....

I'd like to see how damaged the weapon is by looking at the weapon instead of a bar. Basically, if your gun is about to break it would be cool if it actually looked like it was about to break.

Also, I hope that special weapons have special skins to make them stand out from the normal version. Like when you found the special BB gun in F2, it actually had it's owner's name on the side.
