Mass Effect question

Recommended Posts

I have found Mass effect for 15 euros at my local store but I am not sure if I should buy it because of the DRM.

Is there a way to bypass the 3 activations? I have downloaded a crack from the web but I am not sure if it will prevent the game from using up activations every time I am installing it.

Should I wait for a newer edition of the game where it won't have DRM (it seems that EA has given up all this silliness)?

I have read on many websites that Mass effect's DRM is very intrusive and acts as a type of spyware. The truth is that I do not wish to install anything of the sort on my computer. I was considering buying the game and using one of Nightshade's methods but I am now wondering if it is even worth it. Is there a way to completely neutralize this thing and prevent it from being installed on my pc?

Alternatively, I could wait for a boxed release with all 3 (or 2 mass effects). I am in no hurry to play it anyway. I already have The Witcher and Kotor 2 sitting on my shelf and waiting to be played...

Not that I know of, but you can use this tool to completely remove it from your system. As for the game, I'd buy it - Mass Effect is worth $20 and I would recommend getting the sequel when it comes out as well if you enjoy the original. :ermm:

I never thought I would say it, but maybe consider the 360 version? Even the... less savory methods include installing securom at first.

There is little reason to play it in the first place. The dialogue wheel is particularly frustrating, as 50% of the time summaries don't match the actual replies your character will give. Not that your replies mean a ****, mind you; it's still a BioWare game.

The Steam version of Mass Effect does not the activation limits. However, it still uses Steams own drm system, which requires you to be online? I think when you play the game. Or can play the game in offline mode? Might cost your more than 15 or 20 Euros, though.

You likely won't touch it again after a few months, so shouldn't matter.

This. After you finish it, there is really NO reason to replay it. None.

Disagree!

In fact immediately after finishing playing it (in one giant sitting no less), I played it again!

Different strokes for different folks.

I disagree as well. I replayed it a second time after a few months from my original playthrough. I tried a female Vanguard Shepard this time, the first time I had tried a male, soldier class. The female Shepard voice actor did a much better job than the male. Also, combat was definitely more interesting as a Vanguard, as you have access to some nice biotic powers, plus I avoided almost all side exploration, taking on only a few side-quests I hadn't done the first time. It was pretty fun, definitely better than the first playthrough. I also juiced up the difficulty to hard, and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the combat sequences. I like that tactical interface they implemented in the PC version. I ended up enjoying the combat sequences a lot more than any talkie-talkie stuff. Dialogs (and the dialog system itself) were kind of sub-par imho anyway.

I'd say ME is worth getting for 15 euros, specially when experiencing a gaming drought. It's fairly fun.

Funny you say that as it's one of the few games that I instantly started over with.

I came up with Crate 3.0 technology.

Crate 4.0 - we shall just have to wait and see.

Now the Spinward Marches don't look so GRIM!

The only games I have instantly replayed have been Half-Life 2 Episode 1/2 and Portal and that was because of the commentary. When I was done with Mass Effect I didn't want to see another Geth ever again.

Consider that achievements/medals allow you to choose an extra skill or give you bonuses to all characters. That's a decent enough replay value.

"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

So it's the Heart of Fury mode all over again. Playing through a game again with the same character, but stronger enemies(more HP, 2x damage) is the stupidest thing ever. It's still the exact same game...

That stuff only works in Diablo...

Actually, the bonus ability only applies to new characters.

Not really, it just means you get to have an adept with a shotgun or sniper, for example. Lift + Sniper shot entertained me at least for a while.

Whatever floats your boat, to me the combat was horrible and plagued by bad AI, non-existent pathfinding and generic "let's do it like Gears of War" cover-system.

Thread pruned. Lets leave out the instructions on how to "remove" various copy protections.
