They sure look nice on the high definition screen. Then it struck me that I am subconsciously boycotting region coding. I haven't bought any of the titles that I wanted because they are only available from overseas. I guess the movie industry can crash and burn for a while without my money. New Blu-Rays aren't terrible, usually only 5 bucks more than a new DVD which is reasonable, its when they're charging 35 bucks for a movie that is 6 bucks on DVD that I get irate. Cool, let's talk about James Bond. I liked Casino Royale a lot, Dan Craig is coolio and I was looking forward to them refreshing the whole Bond thing. Then QoS, which was basically Bourne in a dinner jacket. Zzzz. They need to do better next time. It was a Bond movie without crazy gadgets, what the hell was that? I mean, even to see it on the big screen in a theater you pay around $10 (depends on where you live, I know). $20 I'm willing to pay, since unlike a movie theater I can see it over and over...but meh... I watched another PPV freebie, Silent Hill. Didn't expect much, but I wanted to see Sean Bean. The film has absolutely great cinematic atmosphere, which actually kept me watching...and the acting was ok...but as a whole, it's not very good. Maybe if the ending hadn't been so laughably over the top it might've fared better. Still, for a film based on a video game, it wasn't the worst of its kind. “Things are as they are. But if they were going to do that, why not set it in the early 1950's? I think the problem is that the producers are trying to have their cake and eat it with the new Bond. I thought it was good, but I think I realized I have very little interest in alternate history stuff. I think real history is interesting enough. Biggest weakness, hwoever, was the film was pretty formulac in its plotline which withholds it from greatness. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250. Aristes Posted April 12, 2009 Share Posted April 12, 2009 Someone mentioned The Fall[/b] somewhere along the line and I put it in Netflicks. Well... I'm a lazy bastard. The wife put it in Netfliks for me. I actually thought it was funny and interesting. Weird, maybe, but well done. I saw 28 Weeks Later and came away mixed. It wasn't terrible, just not as new and refreshing as 28 Days Later. It's so funny how much of an impact previous expectations play in these things. I expected and wanted so much more from 28 Days and was disappointed. I expected so little from 28 Weeks and was gratified. Yet I can clearly state that I found Days better than Weeks. I watched Dark Knight. There was so much about the film running through my mind and so much I expected, both good and bad. I thought the hype concerning Ledger's performance was bias from the homosexual community. When I saw it, though, I was impressed. It shows you not to discount an idea based on a perceived bias or you might just prove your own. My favorite line: "I'll do what you should have did ten minutes ago." Ah hell, I don't know if that's the specific wording or not. We've seen some films recently, and a lot of programs. I have my computer set up to the big flatscreen, so my wife and I have watched episodes we missed of Leverage, including the first episode. I like it. Campy and clever. It didn't seem as much a film as a series of gimmicks pointed at a few social archetypes. The thing I learned from this film is the most important thing in life is to be quirky in a very catch-phrase friendly way. After a bit I was really hoping the movie would have a surprise ending where the girl dies during childbirth. Unfortunately theres like 2 or 3 more crappy songs and I have to see Jennifer Garner's butt-face before the stupid duet at the end. 1/2 a star out of ten. Spicoli, he's not. Otherwise, I had a really good laugh a couple of times during the flick, which is more than I can say for Paul Blart: Mall Cop. That was bad. Jaguars4ever is still alive. Lots of early film gimicks (and a couple of early film story telling techniques that haven't aged very well). But overall pretty fun. Bela Lugosi is good as the evil Roxor. I cannot - yet I must.
