Romantic drivel

You're right, it is just a means to an end for us, because honestly, you women are so bloody melodramatic, for instance Valentines Day really is just another ****in day. You can ****in "do something special" with your loved one at any given time, provided you got the cash, so basically you're more likely to be in the **** if you don't have a fat wallet, not because women are gold diggers, although some are, but because you can have more fun in the relationship with the cash, sweet, sweet, cash.

They complain about having to go see chick flicks in spite of it being one of the easiest ways to trigger that romantic response in their SO.

I know this is getting off topic, but it's not like we're exactly on-topic. Anyways, I guess that, the resistance, depends on the "chick flick," as there are some I would not mind seeing again. Good examples of these -although I will admit they might fall under drama, or another such classification- include The Red Violin, Chocolat, The Illusionist, and Shall We Dance? (the 1995 version is the best, and the newest one was horrid compared to either of the previous ones). Of course, there have been plenty of films that I hated, including Titanic, something that has already been talked about at length in another topic, and the thrice cursed "The New World." I will not rant too much about the last film, but I will quote part of a review I wrote: "The New World is, without a doubt, one of the worst films I have ever had the privilege to endure." :sorcerer:

"Geez. It's like we lost some sort of bet and ended up saddled with a bunch of terrible new posters on this forum."

I always escort my romantic interests to chick flicks and I usually enjoy a good romantic comedy. Thankfully, I didn't have one when Titanic was out so I saved me a lot of trouble it seems. However, there was an atrocity of a film I was made to go to. It's called "The Sweetest Thing", starring Cameron Diaz, Christina Applegate and Shelma Blair. I was thinking, it's got Shelma Blair, how bad can it be? Well, I just wasn't in any romantic mood when the film was over, just blind rage and a burning sensation in my head. I went home had a cold shower and pretended I had never seen that film or that it never existed.

I hope I am not being too graphic again.

Parker Posey, who I adore in spite of her being the villain in Blade Trinity, was also in the cast and even she failed to save that movie for me. It was just bad.

I think your problem is that you have your own definition of romance and since men don't share that definition they don't like romance. Have you ever considered that people can be romantic without necessarily conforming to your definition? I think they can.

[Politeness off]

Also, go screw yourself with that "men don't like chick flicks" bull****. I for one liked Thelma and Louise and I'm pretty sure that that is a chick flick.

It does sound like you need to stop dating idiots who care more for themselves than they care about you. -_-

Oh my...

No, really, every guy I've ever dated has been happy to watch chick flicks with me, at least semi-regularly, but it does seem that in most long term relationships the willingness goes *way* down, when it really should be the opposite.

And yes, Thelma and Louise is a chick flick, most definitely, but not one that's going to leave your SO batting her eyes at you and thinking just how wonderful you are.

:)

Anybody here catch that? All I understood was 'very'.

Yeah but then, if you really don't like chick flicks in general, thinking of them as boring ass ****, like I do, then you shouldn't go out of your way to watch them just to please your girl. **** 'em.

ehh, you just must be able to stomach romance comedies -_-

In fact comedies overall - as long as they feature romance of some kind - tend to work great so to speak.

Awesome dudes aim at artsy girls who may even like artsy films (it is 10 times more interesting to watch A Clockwork Orange than your average romance comedy), though such cases are sadly rare...

Anyway, stop whining. It's not that bad.

Nah I'm talking about chick flicks, films with heavy emotion and themes, like Brief Encounter or Terms Of Endearment designed to appeal specifically to a female target audience, rather than broader target ranged romance comedies like Wedding Crashers or Meet The Parents, which are more than fine to stomach, relying on humour far more than emotional substance.

And -_- at kirrotu's post.

Problem with that is?

Probably that I don't know just what the crap chick flicks really are. Aren't they just romance films, not necessarily of a preppy, teeny bopper sort?

Wedding Crashers is cool, as is Meet The Parents. Haven't seen the other two, just bits of them.

This dialogue is getting really ridiculous due to simple misunderstainding but I specifically ment these

Brief Encounter or Terms Of Endearment

Not those two you talked about in your last post.

In the near 24 years I've walked this earth, there have been only two girls I would've allowed to tie me down in a relationship. The first one I've actually been with for 3 years, from my 16th to 19th. We grew apart eventually, starting with both of us attending different universities. After meeting the second one some time later, I realised that up until then, I had never really known what love is. If there truly is such a thing as soulmates, this is the one. She's like Pope with breasts. Never before had I felt such a connection on so many levels, and I probably will never again. But there's no chance whatsoever of ever being with her, and it still hurts thinking about that, so for the last year or so I've been banishing her out of my life. Not that I really want to (on the contrary), it's just the only viable option for my mental health.

But now comes the troubling part. Ever since, I seem to block myself from developing feelings for any other girls. Even though I've met some very nice ones lately. My emotional scar seems to be controlling my love life. I've learned that you don't need to be in a relationship to be tied down, that feelings alone can do that just as well. And if those feelings aren't mutual it makes matters all the worse.

Luckily time heals all wounds, and being only 23, time is something I hopefully still have lots of.

Chick flicks deserved one of these to the head. They fail.

In 7th grade, I teach the students how Chuck Norris took down the Roman Empire, so it is good that you are starting early on this curriculum.

That really highlights some major differences in the way men and women think. Most men here haven't mentioned romance because it really isn't the important part of the relationship to them. It is a means to an end for most of us. But it is extremely important to women, and so if men want to have a healthy relationship, they need to put in the time it make it romantic.

Fortunately I like romance. I like doing something small and unexpected simply because it will put a smile on her face. When she is sad and down, I like to just give her a hug and hold her in my arms for an indefinite amount of time. I like doing things that I know she loves and appreciates, because she always seems to be willing to do the things that I love and appreciate.

I think we can all agree that romance is fine so long as it involves swinging from chandeliers and swordfights.
