Turok

Recommended Posts

I don't know about you, but I don't pay much attention to games with commercials on T.V. or their progress except for those I've wanted for a LONG time. Blacksite, for example... and now Turok (the one for the 360). I know the series, but never payed attention to it, feeling it didn't really stand out. Plus it was a remake.

This game might actually be fun. REALLY fun. Knife kills are awesome, weapons are diverse (and have different uses, like attracting dinos to enemies) and the graphics are cool too. Plus it has dinosaurs, so you don't just shoot at humanoids/humans (like most shooters...). I wasn't expecting that.

So has anybody bought it or tried the demo? Any thoughts about it?

"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

So you knew it was a remake, and at first dismissed it because of that, despite you not knowing what the original was?

One billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the galaxy. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips. I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my viens. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk, and free throw. I am there.

I'm seeing people misusing the word remake. The new Turok game is about as much a remake of an old Turok game as Neverwinter Nights 2 is a remake of Shadows of Undrentide.

It's also terrible. I played the demo and it was terrible. The controls were bad, aiming was too imprecise for you to hit moving targets. The speed of the raptors combined with the inability to do anything of serious worth to prevent their attack means you spend half those fights just getting tossed around in between pot shots. The knife becomes the only worthwhile weapon there, practically, and you get tired of the animation for that fairly quick.

My only problem with the controls was the zoomed-in first person view. The field of view was so narrow that it was hard to stay on top of fights and whatnot. Not to mention, it feels really restricted.

I really liked the first Turok, but haven't played any of the newer ones.

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

No, I meant I didn't expect it to be fun... though I can see why that sentence is misleading. Oops.

Maybe I just like stupid, gory and violent bloodfests. I had lots of fun with the demo, but it's easy for the game to become repetitive... I also know most people here don't enjoy stupid, gory and violent bloodfests. :)
